It now seems that we are getting the upper hand in this conflict, with most of the enemy troops in retreat, due largely to the overwhelming air superiority we hold at the moment.

The enemy's response to the current situation is to throw lots of air defence battalions into the battle to reduce our airborne advantage.

Our last mission unearthed a number of air defence battalions (ADBs), and other flights had spotted more. The image above shows new and updated PPTs for ADBs. The directions of travel are shown. The actions of the SA-17 ADB at PPT68 is unknown. The SA-17 at PPT65 is expected to hold at that PPT or at the road junction.

Your task as a package is to clear as much of the ADB threat giving priority to the SA-10 at PPT67.

Spade 7 - Target SA-10 at PPT67 and SA-6 at PPT61.

Jaguar 3 - Target SA-17's at PPT65 (static?), PPT68 and 69.

A large number of ground units are congregating at a forward base at the road junction south of PPT61. The opportunity to deplete this group should be taken if possible.

Package MS given for destruction of SA-10 Flap Lid, SA-6 Straight Flush and six SA-17 launchers.

PS will be given for the SA-10 Flap Lid and three SA-17's destroyed.

Maximum of 1 loss is permitted.

The alternate air base at Kittlia should be used for pre and post action refuelling if required.

Good Luck.

Plan
Planning was influenced by lack of fuel tanks. Also no HTS, sniper pods or AIM-120C. Engage SA-17 at PPT65, believed to be static with JSOW-A. Flight land at alternate, Kittila, to hot pit refuel before moving back to target area and engaging SA-17s at PPT68 and 69 with GBU-54 and HARM.

Execution
Took off, climbed for A25. 3 and 4 stripped to engage PPT65. Fired at precision Stps but SA-17 unit had moved. Lead should have briefed to confirm there were targets at the precision Stp using FCR and/or TGP.

Flight landed at alternate and hot pit refueled. Took off with 2nd Element in Lead. During ingress #1 detected bogies 30nm from second element. They were instructed to turn cold and first element targeted the 2x Su-30MKK hostiles. Hostiles were then engaged by other friendlies so Jaguar3 monitored until both hostiles confirmed splashed.

#3 engaged SA-17 launchers at PPT 69, 4 kills. #1 then took over with a further 2 SA-17 launchers destroyed. Unable to find further launchers in the area and with no targets at PPT68, #1 Engaged static targets near SA-6 to NE using GBU in GPS/INS mode. #1 called coords on Tactical and Spade61 confirmed they were engaging mobile targets but same target had been engaged with SDB some time earlier and GBU hit correct spot but units were destroyed by SDBs seconds earlier. #1 engaged an SA-17 with HARM near PPT65 in HAS mode. Hit SA-17 but only damaged.

During #1 engagements second element were capping and pushed East trying to engage an IL-76. This moved them outside of the Growler coverage and #3 was shot down by an SA-6 on detachment from Iraq! Second element should have stayed closer to CAP point.

#4 managed to get back to #1 but was low on fuel. At the same time #1 had a hardware technical issue and was unable to continue flight lead. #2 was instructed to jettison A2G stores. With the help of Spade61 (thanks Fisty), Jaguar3 managed to recover the 3 remaining aircraft safely to the alternate.

Future Missions
During debrief it was identified by Griffin that the SA-17 at PPT68 had pushed down as far as PPT69 and the SA-17 at PPT69 had pushed even further SW. This was a large distance travelled in about 45 minutes and explains the confusion for Jaguar3 in finding no targets at PPT68 but an SA-17 still at PPT69. This significant movement distance should be considered for future missions.

It was agreed that the Sqn would relocate from Heden to Kittila to be closer to the FLOT and that the Sqn would request a resupply before the next mission.

With air superiority and the enemy AD network severely degraded, but still dangerous, moving forward the Sqn focus will be on supporting ground forces in capturing strategic cities to achieve a campaign success. Growler support should continue to be requested for future missions to suppress enemy radar AD systems.

ACMI is available in TS debrief channel File Browser.

"Jaguar 31 is coming around for final on 16R ... and it looks like the airfield is under attack"

"Uh, that's an enemy airfield"

That airfield is occupied by friendlies, it is the one just NW of PPT57 in the images above.

It was under attack though!

Another complicated flight for mission execution. We took a mixed load of #2 with 1xHARM and 1xJSOW to got after the SA10 with #4 carrying SDBs to clean up what was left. Then #1 carried GBU54s to hunt for the SA6 and/or movers whilst #3 carried 2x JSOWs to hunt for the SA6 and/or statics If the SA6 was not found, to expend munitions on targets of opportunity but preferably SAM targets.

Ingress was uneventful at FL240 in Finger4, descending to FL200 to deconflict in a busy airspace. #1, #3 and #4 held at STP9 while #2 went SA10 hunting, witha Magnum, followed up by a JSOW at the SA10 at PPT67. Between the 2 launches, #2 reported a fault/tech with his JSOW, so #4 was sent in to follow up the HARM with SDBs, however before he got any bombs off, #2 got his sh1t sorted and dropped his JSOW. By the time #4 got close enough to search for targets, there was nothing left at PPT67 - the JSOW had done its job (we found out later that the HARM had missed, probably due to the Growler jamming the Flap Lid/BigBird. #2 and #4 rejoined and the flight diverted to the Alternate for fuel, joining the pattern on downwind left for a straight-in approach.

Once all tanks were topped up, we got underway again and with #2 (now Dakota) providing top cover, #1 and #3 went searching for the SA6 at PPT61, but it seems he had other ideas and had long since moved on. En route to that, we picked up a SU33 spike so retrograded whilst Jaguar 3 and an Eagle flight took care of it. We continued to search for movers in the vicinity of PPT67 and 61, finding a battalion to the Northeast. A declare showed them up to be bogeys so #1 dropped on them whilst #3 searched for statics at PPT 61, finding a suitable target and dropping his load there. In the meantime, with a full load still on the wings and with nothing left of the SA10s, #4 was sent to search for statics and located a suitable candidate to receive the good news. Unfortunately we were unable to locate the SA6 (although it found Jaguar 33), but with a large number of hits on alternate targets, Command decided that the mission was a MS.

Egress was back to the alternate for a planned OHB but due to Jaguar in the pattern we joined the pattern on runway heading at 3000ft and flew a descending circuit (right) whilst Jaguar31 and 32 landed, then we landed in order.

The 4 things a wingman is allowed to say:

1.Two
2.Lead, you're on fire.
3.I'm bingo fuel.
4.I'll take the fat one.... :/
