Kurile V1.4
BMS 4.34.4
Objective
We are finally going to get after the enemy ground units on our island and start pushing the enemy back. Enemy air threats are still significant and we therefore have 2 Escort flights to protect the Western and Northern flanks while the AI flight engage targets in their kill box.
Package 1021
HAWKEYE1 - AI - 4x F-16C-50. Destroy enemy ground units inside kill box.
MUDHEN5 - ESCORT - 4x F-16C-50. Escort HAWKEYE1 and protect the N/NE flank of the kill box.
CYBORG4 - ESCORT - 4x F-16C-50. Escort HAWKEYE1 and protect the W/NW flank of the kill box.

MS: 8 enemy ground units destroyed. Maximum 2 losses to the package from enemy action.
PS: 4 enemy ground units destroyed. Maximum 4 losses to the package from enemy action.
Results Flight Leads in this Sunday's official mission, "New Millennium 11" are requested to post a debrief of their flight's actions, including any lessons learned or that should be learned by others.
Please put the following information at the top of your post:

PS
We took off from rwy 30 for our patrol area in the north. We aimed for FL260 but ended up higher as we engaged targets before we arrived on station.
We had a four ship of SU-30s to the left and the same of MiG-29S on the right, roughly level with each other.
I handed off the 30s to No3 and 4 while my element went for the 29s. It ended fairly quickly. We shot down two 29's but No2 and I were killed by R-77s from the 30's.
Meanwhile Pegasus in 3 engaged the 30's taking two down, but he was shot down an R-77. Mango in No4 managed to escape and came around for a second shot killing a second 30 but getting killed himself.
Lessons learned. Whole package should remain on the ground until all tech issues are overcome. We took off too early and were isolated.
Stay together as a package and concentrate on one target or group. Alternatively bug out and re-group.
A good effort from the flight and especially Scooter as my No2 who handled the situation well under the circumstances. Sorry I couldn't bring you all home.

For my part, having reviewed ACMI and recording. I made the following mistakes.
1: I had seen that the Su30s were rapidly becoming the major threat compared to the Mig29s and should have alerted 1&2 to the threat. We all should have turned cold to defeat the likely incoming missiles (lack of launch warning from R-77s).
2: Sorting the 2 Su30s was difficult. I did communicate to 4 to take the trail, but this comms was not heard. Also, which was the trail was difficult to pick out as they were making a tight turn just as we engaged them. I think I should have launched on both and just asked 4 to follow me cold. 4 could then take shooter role on the next engagement. Result was that the leaker Su30 did major damage.
3: I got fixated on watching the sky/TGP and not paying enough attention to how close the Su30 was getting, and RWR indications. I said in the debrief that I had nothing on RWR but that is a lie.

Escort CYBORG41: "Noodle" AA=2 AG=0 RTB CYBORG42: "Sabre" AA=0 AG=0 RTB CYBORG43: "Gekko" AA=1 AG=0 RTB
PS
Strange IVC issues, on several VHF channels (17-18-20) we could not all hear each others. Best was 2/3 with last pilot hearing mic click but no voice. No issues on UHF, we eventually found a VHF where #1 could hear 2 and 3 on VHF and would transmit on TS.
This delayed our take off and created too much spacing between escort flights and prevented early support. MUDHEN5's engagement could have taken a different turn if we would have been able to cover the NW on time, apologies about it.
Contacts were coming in from the W, 2 ship Su-33, #1 damaged one and turned cold while #3 tracked the other, eventually turning hot but also engaged by friendly, double tap. soon this area was covered by friendly F-15s
MUDHEN5 no longer covering N and friendlies over the W, #1 and #2 ran N/S legs while #3 ran E/W legs. W being the busiest, with the occasional spike from the SA-4, we reset to E/W legs monitoring north on cold legs.
AWACS called picture clean at all time, even though it wasn't.
HAWKEYE1 called miller time and during our last leg #1 picked up a 2 ship Mig-29 coming from the north, hot. #1 and #2 committed with #3 in support. #1 splash but #2 missile was evaded. Singleton Mig-29 turned back hot but #3 met him with a delivery of 2 slammers (for good health), splash. #1 turned back hot to check our six, clear.
Rejoined for overhead recovery on runway 30, ended up pretty close to a very slow F-15 on final and #1 and #2 had to go around.

PS
Ingressed behind Escort and SEAD. After we lost Escort, coordinated with SEAD and there was an attack window.
Found stationary targets and all JDAMs dropped in 2 passes. #1 hit all targets for 58 ground kills, mostly armour. #2 appeared to hit targets in ACMI but for some reason bombs didn’t not explode.
Off target offered assistance to Cyborg but not required so RTB’d. Setup for OHB on R30 but #2 had eng fire warning on run-in so declared an emergency and landed straight in. #1 completed OHB and landed.
