The way has been largely cleared for us to take out the two home bases of the enemy's Mirages.
Tonight's flight consists of two flights of three F-16CM-40s. Plasma 4 is first up. This is the DEAD flight, tasked with primary targets of the two SA-3 Low Blows at SP's 6 and 7, and the SA-2 Fan Song E at SP8.
Co-ordinates for each of these is as follows;
SP6 (SA-3) N32° 28.017' E046° 16.367' Elev 60ft SP7 (SA-3) N32° 28.027' E046° 06.497' Elev 49ft SP8 (SA-2) N32° 29.409' E045° 43.055' Elev 45ft
Other threats include SA-4, 6, 7, 8, 14 and 16.
Plasma MS - All three SAM radars (Low Blow and Fan Songs) destroyed and no losses to Viper 2 from radar guided SAMs. PS - Both Low Blows destroyed and/or one loss to Viper 2 from radar guided SAMs.

Second up is Viper 2, a three ship OCA flight. The primary target is Ubajdah Bin A Jarrah AB and the secondary is An Numaniyah AB. Both are single runway air bases and your task is to put those runways out of action.
Viper MS - Both air base's runways destroyed. PS is for destruction of the runway at Ubajdah Bin A Jarrah AB.
Tanker Copper 1 is still on station for refuelling. Set comms in flight for UHF13 252.225, TCN 63Y.
Weather is fair with winds from NNW and base cloud layer of 5000 feet.
Results Flight Leads in this Sunday's official mission, "Hold The Line 11" are requested to post a debrief of their flight's actions, including any lessons learned or that should be learned by others.

Flight Role - DEAD
Plasma41: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=4, EJT Plasma42: "Noodle" AA=1 AG=2, EJT
MS
Took on and slowly climbed to FL230, avoiding the tanker. At enemy coast I went to boresight the MAVs. Regrouped with Noodle who had moved ~30 miles ahead. He looped back and we commenced our attacks.
First attack was at the Low Blows, that were killed on the first passes. We then came around, me clockwise and Noodle anti-clockwise and cluster bombed the two SA-14 threats.
We then turned our attention to the SA-2 and SA-16s at the second AB. Noodle was tasked with the Fan Song which he took out and I went looking for the SA-16. I found SA-2 launchers instead, that I thought surrounded the SA-16s (that I couldn't see). I took two launchers out and was then shot down by an SA-16, despite releasing copious amounts of flare. Noodle soon followed suit from the same threat. |

Flight Role: OCA
Viper21: "Vosene" AA=2 AG=1 KIA Viper22: "Mango" AA=0 AG=0 RTB
PS
Plan
Head to tanker and top up while DEAD engage SAM threats. Ingress to target area, split at IP. #1 to attack primary airfield, #2 to attack secondary. Low low attacks. High-Lo-High profile.
Execution
Uneventful ingress to tanker. Had to wait while tanker HAVCAP refueled. #1 eventually got on boom and topped up. For some reason #2 of HAVCAP then skipped queue and got called to refuel again. Decision was made to head direct to target due to erratic tanker behaviour without #2 refueling.
DEAD flight were still engaging targets and #2 lost some fuel in tank jettison. Decision was made for #2 to RTB, which he did without incident.
#1 got call that both DEAD aircraft had been shot down by an SA-16 over secondary airfield.
#1 went low level then got a call from AWACS about 2x Mirage scrambling from secondary airfield. Engaged both with Slammer shots, both splashed. Turned into target at IP and executed low level attack. Runway destroyed but aircraft was hit by AAA.
Aborted attacked on second airfield due to damage and jettisoned bombs. RTB with degraded aircraft. On final at home plate at approximately 1500ft AGL, aircraft suddenly had violent uncommanded nose down pitch to the vertical which could not be corrected. #1 attempted to eject but aircraft was already outside seat envelope and impacted the sea vertically after less than 3 seconds.
Subsequent investigation from video and ACMI ruled out a stall/deep stall. Aircraft did not go into flight control backup. Issue was likely either an uncommanded trim or complete failure of FLCS, which did not show in warnings.
Recommendation - In event of battle damage, disengagement of trim system is recommended.
