29th January 1991, Ras Safaniya Airbase, 2030 local.

Package 2545
Jaguar5 - 4x F-16C-40 DEAD
Viper5 - 4x F-16C-40 DEAD

Once again we switch our focus from armour on the front line, to the deep battle in preparation for air strikes on enemy airbases with a DEAD mission.

Your targets are 4 SAM FCRs deep in enemy territory.

Flight Plan

Targets

Stp 5 - SA-2 Fan Song E N31.26.542 E47.35.152

Stp 6 - SA-3 Low Blow N31.52.453 E47.21.375

Stp 7 - SA 2 Fan Song E N32.06.473 E46.43.083

This is a long mission and Tanker Copper1 will be stationed at Stp3/10 and is on UHF 252.220 TCN 63Y.

Your flight takes you through neutral airspace and it's important you stay out of the way and don't get seen.

The weather is fair throughout with scattered cloud at 5,000ft.

Mission success: All 4 FCRs destroyed and no losses to radar SAMs.
Partial success: SA-5 and 1x SA-2 FCR destroyed and maximum 1x loss to radar SAMs.

DEAD
VIPER51: "Noodle" AA=0 AG=3 EJT
VIPER52: "Vosene" AA=0 AG=1 RTB

PS

Plan:
Follow JAGUAR5 - AAR - Take down SA-5 FCR at STP18 and SA-2 FCR at STP17 - Egress with possible AAR

Execution:
As planned, only we were the only ones to hit the tanker. Ingress ended up 80NM behind JAGUAR5. We arrived on target as they were finishing their business.
Party started with a SA-4 spike and launch on VIPER51, defeated then FCR went quiet, located S of the SA-3 at STP16. We proceeded to attack the SA-5 first, VIPER51 getting several launches at 60NM which would go ballistic for most. VIPER52 could not get the SA-5 to light up on HAD and VIPER51 now in a good position to magnum (SA-5 lit on my HAD) I fired at 36NM and remained hot. No tally on splash but FCR went quiet at expected time of impact. VIPER52 was cleared to engage the SA-2 as STP17 which remained quiet up until now.
Due to poor visibility VIPER51 decided to get down to 6000ft where I could now spot and confirm hit on SA-5 FCR, I took this opportunity to fire a maverick at one of the launchers.
VIPER5 now committed on SA-2 at STP17, #51 woke it up at 10NM with a few launches evaded and soon launches on #52 followed at 8NM.
Another SA-4 popped up ~20NM SW of STP17 launching at #51 and disappearing, similar to the previous SA-4, defeated. VIPER52 now keeping the SA-2 lit, VIPER51 fired a maverick at the FCR (3NM) and got a SA-16 launched, evaded.
Both objectives were now downed, we decided to hunt for the closest SA-4 then RTB.
#VIPER51 got nails M close and after checking six decided not to engage these threats as they turned cold as soon as I was bugging them.
#51 spotted the plumes and went low and fast on target while #52 remained higher having now issues with controls, making it hard to employ the jet at 100%. #52 managed to get a harm on the SA-4 then jettisoned mavericks and #51 got last maverick off on the SA-4.
Now RTB with Vosene's controls getting even worse, I unfortunately flew within an SA-6 WEZ (70NM SW of STP16) and got launched at 10NM, being too slow and not defending properly it was game over for me.
VIPER52 managed to get the auto pilot on and RTB avoiding mirages and su-20s.

Conclusion:
Good teamwork; good weasel technique; getting the SAMs to fire at us while retaining good SA on pop-up threats we still managed to take 3 SAM FCRs sites down.
Knowing the safe way in, I should've used the same way out avoiding a the SA-6...

DEAD
Jaguar 5-1 AA-0 AG-1 RTB
Jaguar 5-2 AA-0 AG-3 RTB
Jaguar 5-3 AA-0 AG-1 RTB

Took off as planned , headed for STP 2 to form up , noticed Viper flight
got ahead of us so agreed to let Viper head for the Tanker . We decided to head straight for our target area and try and take down the sam sites before Viper got on station as they would need the room .

Jaguar 5-1 took Wild Weasel role and air cover . There was some small a-a skirmishes going on and I quickly established that friendly AI were taking care of them .

SA2 site was a bit stubborn but did eventually go for me . Lots of missiles shot at me , Jaguar 5-3 engaged but was unable to take it down . I could see flames over the Sa2 area and the radar went silent so radio'd to Viper flight that the site was down . Jaguar 5-2 engaged the SA3 and took it out without problems .

As Jaguar 5-2 was rejoining on me the SA2 lit back up and began to engage me again and I then realised that I was mistaken that the SA2 site was down . Griffin was able to quickly locate the SA2 Fan Song and take it out while I kept it busy .

We all then used up our mavs , were low on fuel , so decided to rtb .

Overall great co ordinated attack from my flight , and also with Viper flight as a few plans got changed mid flight but the timings worked out almost perfectly .

Learning points : Some Mav practice needed as alot of mav's got wasted or didnt hit their targets .

For me - remember to confirm for sure with TGP before calling a target down , although I was pretty busy evading Sams so I could be forgiven for that .

Griffin and Mango feel free to comment or add anything if you feel I missed anything .
