29th January 1991, Ras Safaniya Airbase, 1200 local.

Viper7 - AI 4x F-16C-40
Banshee6 - AI 4x F-16C-40

Iraqi armored battalions are now pushing into the outskirts of Khafi and we are in danger of them capturing the city and losing this campaign. We MUST push them back on this mission. Priority targets are armour and BMP.

Watch out for friendly units just south of the kill box. Check targets before engaging.

Given the highest priority of this mission, HQ have provided LITENING pods and all weapons available in theatre have been replenished, including enough GBU 12 for 4 per aircraft.

Weather is fair with scattered cloud but should be okay to use TGP.

SA-7, 9 and 13s are expected so hard deck is 16k AGL.

Red air continues to be attributed and there will be plenty of other Bluefor in the area but be prepared to defend yourselves from leakers.

Mission Success - Average of at least 4 Enemy units destroyed per human aircraft
Partial Success - Average of at least 2 Enemy units destroyed per human aircraft

Below are briefing pictures of the flight plan and a close up of the kill box.

Good luck and get the job done!

Banshee62: "Reds" AA=0 AG=8 RTB

Game plan:
Follow Viper7 on a counter-clockwise E-W race track.
Each flight lead to call for picture when cold.

Execution:
Due to cloud cover all of us had to work on a different window and deconflict using IDM.
Some good ground pounding for Banshee6 but I think we were a bit greedy with our loadout.
As the GBUs were essential imo, MK-20 would've been a better choice instead of mavericks.
On top of that Banshee62 could only get 3 of them off, most probably due to time out or over G.

Picture was mainly clear except a few calls that were no factor for us.
Uneventful egress and RTB.

MS

Slow-ish climb in an arc to SP for attack run at FL200. Loaded with 4 x GBU12 and 2 x AGM-65D, the aim was to do a race track around the targets. Cloud cover scuppered that and the plan changed to suit gaps in the cover.

GBU strikes were (I suspect) hampered by the clouds messing with the laser guidance. Maveric shots went wild in most cases, particularly the second shot in a single pass.

Fuel soon became critical. Bingo was set at 3000lbs, which was too high in the end and I think we could well have got away with 2000lbs as I used 300lbs from leaving target area to landing and I left that area with 2500lbs.

A satisfying result as a package.
