Wonsan is a serious target that we cannot get to, largely due to the flak coverage and the air power in that area.

Using the cover of pre-dawn, low level flying you are to follow a fixed route to the target to bring you in from the north to take out both runways at Wonsan.

Diversionary flights from F-15s will keep the enemy aircraft (all MiG 29A) busy to cover your ingress and attack. Then you shall have to weave through the various SAM and flak covers and likely air threats in order to get home.

MS - Both runway 15 and 19 destroyed and only one loss to the package.
PS - Either runway destroyed and only one loss to the package.

Good luck.

Flight Role: OCA Strike

Falcon11: "Vosene" AA=1 AG=0 RTB
Falcon12: "Mango" AA=0 AG=3 EJT
Falcon13: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=2 EJT

MF due to too many friendly aircraft shot down.

This mission should have been called Behind Enemy Lines 2!

Plan Low level ingress to target then off to East and climb over sea. If bounced by MiGs in AD zone then egress low-level out of SAM range then climb and engage. Support from AI BARCAPs to South as required.

Execution Mission was plagued by technical issues right from start. #1 couldn't get gear up after take-off (no overspeed) so had to back out and then come back in and all was working fine. In meantime #3 took lead. By time #1 got back into the aircraft he was 5nm trail of the flight and had to catch up while resetting all systems prior to going low-level so it was a rush but completed just in time.

Now at low-level, #1 re-took lead in front and #2 was out of position. Flight was early so orbited at low-level to allow #2 to rejoin but he overshot so #1 once again had to accelerate to get back out in front. Just before turn in to target #2 once again fell behind briefed 2nm trail position so #1 extended turn to allow rest of flight to catch up. Turning into target 20nm to North the flight finally had the correct spacing. During debrief #2 explained that he was having to use AB to maintain position. #1 and #3 were able to do this in Mil power so there was an issue with #2, possibly controller related, that needs to be investigated.

Just before IP, #1 picked up 29 Spikes from the target area. During planning it was identified that there were MiG-29A at the target airbase. #1 instructed #2 and #3 to prosecute their attack while #1 went A2A and picked up 2x contacts taking off from the airbase and got tally at same time as they were only 12nm away. #1 declared them as Hostile and fired 2x Slammers at 11nm, once at each target. The targets split to East and West with the West bandit proceeding cold but the East bandit turning back North hot. #1 fired a second Slammer at the East bandit and splashed it with both missiles hitting. The West bandit was also hit by the Slammer but only damaged it but it continued cold and was not in a position to prevent the attack by Falcon1.

#1 tried to reset for the attack but was too close to the target and was unable to realign with the runway for the bomb drop, aborting the attack to the East at low-level.

#2 dropped his Blu-107, destroying 3 runway sections on R19 but then got slow and a little high as he came of target and was hit by an SA-14. More countermeasures were also required. #2 ejected. #3 attacked R15 and scored two good hits on it and also came off East at low-level following #1.

#1 jettisoned all A2G stores including bombs and fuel tanks then tried to provide BDA and MiG warning to Gamble1 who were now turning hot to target but could not get comms. During debrief it was confirmed that Gamble1 could hear Falcon11 but Falcon11 couldn't hear their reply, possibly due to being low-level.

Falcon12 managed to get comms with Gamble11 in end and told them to focus on R19. This allowed Gamble12 to adjust his attack and hit R19.

Clear of SAM threats to East, #1 climbed and picked up MiG-29 spots to S/SW. He turned North and instructed #3 to do the same and re-join. By now, Gamble12 was off target to East and reported Gamble11 was down so he moved across to V15 and became the #2 in Falcon1.

Now spiked 29 to the SW, #3 and #1 turned hot. #3 was shooter as #1 had 1x heater only. #2 was still cold to North climbing. #3 fired 1x Slammer at each 29 but both missile shots were defeated.

#1 continued to press on the 2x cold 29 as they turned hot again at 11nm he dragged then across #2 who was now hot. #2 fired 1x Slammer and splashed one of the 29. #3 also fired a Slammer at the other 29 but this was dragged out once again and defeated. #3 now had 1x Heater only and pressed to the merge but was fired on by the MiG, he defeated 1x R-27R but was hit by the 2nd and had to eject. During debrief he commented that he couldn't get his Heater to fire. #1 now pressed to the merge and also couldn't get his heater to fire. He could only fire in in Dogfight mode but despite being lock on it didn't track the target.. #3 had a Slammer shot and hit the MiG. #1 was now guns on the MiG but it exploded, kill awarded to #2.

After investigation it was confirmed that heaters are not cooled automatically in MRM Mode, only Dogfight Mode. This might have been why they wouldn’t fire. Heaters should always be Uncage before firing, even when slaved, to ensure they are tracking target. Clouds in 4.34 can causes heaters to miss.

Spiked from West and low on fuel and A2A weapons, #1 and #2 diverted to alternate with #2 landing from the high key with 800lbs of fuel.

During debrief it was noted that the veteran AI is much more proficient at defeating BVR missiles and will require us to develop our tactics. It was also noted that the friendly BARCAPs did not engage the enemy flights as expected so we were significantly outnumbered.

ACMI available in TS Backup debrief File Browser.

Overall another very tough but interesting mission.

Flight Role - OCA Strike

Gamble 1-1: "Reds" AA=1 AG=0 KIA
Gamble 1-2: "Noodle" AA=2 AG=1 RTB

Gamble flight took off from the airbase , tried to stick to caret and caught up with Falcon flight , so we decided to take some spacing and went back to the previous steerpoint to orbit and then proceed to target area at low level .

As we were on our bombing run there were enemy flights in the target area , we were low and fast so we decided to take a few shots on ingress . We both shot down our targets but ended up overunning the target area which put us in a compromised situation and exposed to the AAA and low level Sams . I got shot down , Noodle survived and was able to take out a ground target and land safely .

Lessons learned :- If the target area looks busy and compromised , hang back and monitor the situation . It's not a good idea to try and take out air targets in the middle of a bombing run .

Perhaps you could have taken the shots at the air targets and looped around for a fresh run at the target?
