MS

Plan

Falcon1 supported by 2-ship Gamble1.
Get to CAP area ASAP then grinder with second two elements split 20nm azimuth and first element in front by 20nm. Intent was to clear out any hostiles in AO then maintain CAP and commit on anything entering AO.

MAR: 20nm MiG-29A and 15nm for MiG-23.

Execution

Rolling take-off as fragged. Comms issues with Gamble11 so coordinated with Gamble12 until solved.

After take-off #1 had tech issues that lasted for the entire flight and impacted SA.

Ingress was uneventful but once again issues with AWACS comms. Couldn’t get a declare or picture.

Picked up a group at 45nm to NW, 4-ship. Unable to confirm friendly but may have been F-16 so needed to confirm hostile but could not do this without AWACS at that range. At 25nm first contacts started to beam left so handed off to Gamble1. 2nd contact group turned cold and several new groups detected to North so lead element turned cold with 2nd element 20nm trail and hot.

2nd element committed on rightmost group, which was 4x MiG-23 and 4x Su-25 although we did not have ID at that time. #3 fired 1x slammer just before 15nm MAR and immediately turned cold. This shot was defeated by a hard turn into the missile by an Su-25.

#4 was ordered cold but pressed to launch 2x slammer. He splashed 1x MiG-23 and 1x Su-25. He eventually turned cold at 9nm to the closest MiG-23. #4 was splashed by an AA-7 fired from 6nm. This engagement is an excellent example of the need to respect the MAR. #3 did this and survived, #4 did not and was shot down.

As second element turned cold, first element were hot again, excellent grinder. #3 was getting hard spiked by a MiG-23 and requested delouse. #1 fired at the bandit at 17nm and splashed it before firing at a second MiG-23 and turning East to drag the bandits while #2, who was several miles trail killed a further 1x MiG-23 with 1x slammer shots. #1 also killed the bandit with his second shot.

All of the package were now cold so #1 coordinated with Gamble1 and took separation from his #3. With Falcon1 now spiked from the remaining MiG-23 group to the West, Gamble1 turned hot.

A bug was identified where Falcon11 was spiked (inner threat circle) from a MiG-23 for several minutes despite it being cold and up to 60nm away. This resulted in some time being spent trying to delouse #1 from a non-existent close threat.

Gamble1 continued hot chasing the bandits until they left the AO to the North then turned cold. During this time a 2-ship of F-15C (Hog1) joined the fight but was not identified by AWACS.

After a short time on CAP #1 committed on a MiG-29A group engaging Hog1. He splashed 2x MiG-29A with 2x Slammer shots.

The lead element of Falcon1 then supported Gamble1 engaging 2xMiG-29A. Gamble1 splashed one bandit and #1 killed the remaining bandit after it evaded slammers from both Gamble1 and Hog1.

Falcon1 diverted to the alternate with #2 being low on fuel. Straight in approach.

Overall good flight and great mutual support between all 3 elements despite the technical issues and a complex series of engagements.

Once again no network issues with everyone P2P.

Issues again with AWACS.

Some strange enemy AI behavior, flights aborting and landing also aircraft just disappearing after breaking contact rather than landing.

Plan

Gamble1 supporting Falcon1
Act as 3rd element for Falcon1, 20nm separation betwen 2nd element and Gamble1. Covering the W/NW area of the CAP box.

Execution

Rolling take-off as fragged. Comms issues for Gamble11 (new soundcard input taking over my default mic input) fixed during taxi.

Gamble1 took spacing from Falcon13 and proceeded as fragged.
Gamble11 had issues with RWR and could not get tones, nails or spikes. After 2 RWR restarts problem was solved.
Comms with AWACS were not succesful so we relied on Falcon1 calls.
Monitored NW contacts turning hot (Mig-23) but once within range contacts turned cold, which is a pattern enemy flights adopted throughout the mission.
Gamble1 turned cold and monitored as per instructed by Falcon1. Gamble12 remained hot, getting within MAR, but then turned cold.
At this point comms between Falcon1 and Gamble1 were not very clear as picture was getting richer. Gamble12 quickly took over comms which was of great healp for Gamble11.

We then remained on hot/cold pattern, monitoring W/NW CAP area when friendly F-15 got involved.
Gamble11 took a shot at a group of MiG-29s (3 x Fox-3) which resulted in 1AA kill. Group was low and turning cold but still within range.
Gamble12 supported but did not fire as all bandits were turning cold, fast and low.

Gamble11 was BINGO and we decided to RTB, soon after Falcon1 diverted to alternate.

Gamble11 declared an emergency and went for straight in approach while Gamble12 decided to go around.

Overall good flight, comms could've been better between Gamble11 and Falcon1 and I think Yardstick on Gamble11 and 12 would've helped too.
