AMENDED BRIEFING. PLEASE READ FOR UPDATED MISSION DETAILS
The 77th squadron remain at San Pancrazio AB. Tower control is available on UHF as long as you have installed the updated station+ils.dat file created by Zipgun.

The SU-33's coming from the carrier and the air defences of the cruiser have caused problems and nearly put paid to our last mission just off the Italian coast. Other sea craft, notably the two JangWei frigates have also been causing problems.
We know that the carriers SA-N-6 is inactive (thank goodness) but the SA-N-4 (SA-8) of the cruiser is very active. Also note that the carrier task force has four Sovremenny destroyers as escort.
We have discovered that this task force has managed to make itself invisible with stealth technology stolen from Father Christmas. As we are not likely to find them another pair of JangWeis to the SE of the carrier group are to be killed.
So your amended tasks this week are to attack two frigate task forces in order to illuminate a number of threats and obstructions to our safe passage across the Adriatic Sea..
As usual air threats continue to be lower grade but the numbers are higher. The exception are the SU-33s we encountered last time out. Keep a wary eye open for them.

MS
We formed on the way, and the 2nd element split and went AG, but on their way in the ships exploded. They then searched for other ships, and engaged AG. Then they had 29 nails and turned north to engage while the 1st element continued towards the secondary target.
Eventually, we regrouped as a flight west of the secondary, expended the AG munitions, and then RTBed.
Good mission, with the exceptions of the pesky ships who were not behaving position wise.

Went light on fuel, buster takeoff, formed up inside 15 miles, kept a good tight formation until approx. 10 miles from IP. After I went heads-down to look for the ships, the flight lost all cohesion and we ended up separated with no mutual support whatsoever.
Had very little joy locating targets, had numerous contacts on the radar, but could get no visual on the targets using either the TGP or Mk1 eye-ball. The one pair of ships we did find were found visual by chance. I attacked the first, scored a good hit, but debrief reported a miss (ACMI shows otherwise), then attacked the second which I damaged, Griffin finished it off.
RTB'd soon after. Frustrating mission, very much like my coarse fishing exploits in fact! The ACMI showed we were too late, as most of our assigned targets were AI assigned targets too, and were taken out before we got there.
Happy holidays one and all, see you all in 2017! |

We too went for increased payload at the expense of wing bags, so with 4 AGM65Gs each and only 2 targets, it would have been almostr impossible to fail this one (even for us!). So a relatively short flight (169nm roundtrip). We reached target altitude in plenty of time, with a clear A-A picture all the way. 2 and 3 then stripped low to search for Sea targets while 1 provided top cover. Having located the two OSA IIs, 2 and 3 engagfed with 2x Mavs each, all of which scored hits, however a BDA showed the second ship still floating, so 1 finished it off with a further 2 Mavs. Then, a search for more targets showed 3 contacts about 70nm to the northeast, but conscious of our decreased fuel load, I decided to call Miller Time and we RTB'd. An uneventful egress was spiced up a little with a 3 ship combat descent, with 2 and 3 expertly maintaining the formation (until the last few thousand feet, when Echion bottled it and pulled out :D ). But, we landed in order, straight in and parked to await the rest of the package. The debrief screen credits Echion with the kill on the second Frigate, but the ACMI gives it to Fisty. That said, I just cleaned up the mess and it surely would've sunk eventually. So since it's Christmas, I'm happy to pass the glory to Echion. Overall a good flight with good comms, formation and flying skills, much improved since my last flight with Echion and Fiero. Well done Green!
