We are making fair progress against the enemy's resources. Another push in this respect is the mission this week. This time we are to hit the 1st Infantry Corp Base, seen as a support hub for a large number of mobile enemy troops and vehicles in the area.

Known threats in addition to ground fire from the aforementioned enemy troops are SA-11 launchers at Kosong docks and Kojo further up the coast. The latter unit is moving south down the coast road. Air threats may come from FA/18 and EF2000 Eurofighters that have been noted recently.

The Strike and SEAD shall take off from Nowhere (Yechon) AB and the Escort from Chongju.

Package 16931 in Take-off Order
Prowler 3 is a four ship SEAD, tasked to eliminate any pop up radar SAM threats and advise the package commander if there are too many threats for the strike flight. MS no losses to radar SAMs or radar guided AAA, PS one similar loss to any flight. SEAD shall support Gauntlet when required.

Gauntlet 2 is the four ship escort and Package Commander, tasked to protect the strike package.
IDA will be from this flight.
MS no AA losses to the strike flight, PS one loss to the strike flight.

Spartan 1 is a four ship strike flight. Targets at the 1st Infantry Corps base are the are the depot (first in list), the ammo dump and the Admin Building. MS is all three targets destroyed, PS is destruction of the depot and Ammo dump only.

Time on Target
TOT for Spartan 1 is 04:08hrs at FL250 to FL180. IDM 1, VHF 1, tacan 11/74
TOT for Gauntlet 2 is 04:01hrs at FL280. IDM 2, VHF 2, tacan 16/79
TOT for Prowler 3 is 04:03hrs at FL270. IDM 3, VHF 3, tacan 21/84

Flight path is fixed for mutual support.

The weather is on the change and is expected to deteriorate in the next few hours. Choose your weapons accordingly.

Good Hunting

Flight Role: ESCORT
Gauntlet21: "Poppy" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Gauntlet22: "Wildcat" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Gauntlet23: "Tank" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Gauntlet24: "Utopic" AA=0 AG=0 EJT

The escort was informed that there was a F-18 group north of target, which we took as a divert call. We went north in burner in a formed 'wall' formation giving everybody CAF. I had no joy, and Tank was asking to shoot the target, which Wildcat already had fired on. Utopic and Wildcat we're shooters and me and Tank snapped west to evade and bracket. Then a leaker (the 1 F-18C nobody saw-or could see due to the EA-18 jamming).
Utopic was defensive so me and Tank turned in quickly, but the F-18 was already at top speed coming from below. #4, #1 and #3 were shot down in rapid succession. Wildcat egressed and RTB'd. I never saw it at any time, Utopic got too close, and Tank had no RWR warning.
lessons learnt:
- we we're behind the package from the takeoff, we had to go gate to catch up: dont do this, instead rejoin with the package before proceeding at a set point
- we left our briefed plan almost straight after takeoff: unless absolutely needed, don't do this: the whole situation could have been avoided if we stuck to the plan/package (20/20 hindsight)
- not every bandit is a threat to the package, and not every contact needs to be engaged

MS: the strike package had no losses to air to air

I had to restart during ingress because my connection dropped and by the time I got back in, my flight had reached the release point. We asked if we were cleared to attack and were given the green light. #2 and #3 were 15nm ahead of me and were too close to engage. They did a quick 180 and attacked, I followed a few minutes later. We called that we were weapons away and RTB.

We all made it back OK, and post-mission recon showed all targets destroyed.

BTW, this is my “cheat-sheet” for weapon effectiveness in U1: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ftcyg69db66luas/4.33.Ground.Guide.xlsx?dl=0

Uneventful ingress. We destroyed two SA-11 near the coastal road
and stood by to help in any A2A engagements, but RTB when
asked by Escort, 30 miles in trail of the Strike flight.
