After a very successful mission last time out, in which the enemy lost ten high value aircraft to an excellent escort, as well as losing two depots and two search radars, it has been decided to go for similar targets again.

This time your mission shall be to attack targets slightly east of your last mission. Not only will this diminish the enemy's radar cover by a further two systems, it will help open a flight corridor to the NE coast and the many targets there.

SEAD will have a very important role to play this time out as there are two known battalions of SA-11s guarding the area, which must be neutralised for the strikes to be successful.

Your flights shall be leaving soon and here is a current air picture as at 00:14hrs. Note the penetration of enemy aircraft close to the escort and SEAD home base. Enemy air activity is being monitored to the south of our airbases so check your six regularly.

Package 15751 in Take-off Order
Falcon 1 is the four ship escort and Package Commander, tasked to protect the strike package.
IDA will be from this flight.
MS no AA losses to the strike flight, PS one loss to the strike flight.

Cowboy 1 is a four ship strike flight. Targets at Sinan-ni Radar Station are the radar and the depot. Targets at the 5th Infantry Corps Base are the Ammo Dump and the Radar. MS is all four targets destroyed, PS is radars destroyed only.

Fury 1 is a two ship SEAD, tasked to eliminate any pop up radar SAM threats and advise the package commander if there are too many threats for the strike flight. MS no losses to radar SAMs or radar guided AAA, PS one similar loss to any flight. It is known that active SA-11s cover the area. These should be your primary focus.

Lobo 1 is a two ship close escort for Cowboy 1. MS is no losses to Cowboy 1, PS is one loss to Cowboy 1.

TOT for Cowboy 1 is 00:45hrs at FL260 to FL180. IDM 1, VHF 1, tacan 11/74
TOT for Falcon 1 is 00:40hrs at FL300. IDM 2, VHF 2, tacan 16/79
TOT for Fury 1 is 00:42hrs at FL280. IDM 3, VHF 3, tacan 21/84
TOT for Lobo 1 is 00:43hrs at FL290. IDM 4, VHF 4, tacan 26/89

Good Hunting

Flight Role: ESCORT
Falcon11: "Griffin" AA=3 AG=0 RTB
Falcon12: "Veiland" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Falcon13: "Floyd" AA=1 AG=0 EJT

MS

Took off and climbed to FL300. No problems and skies were clear until the FLOT where we had contacts to the west. SU-30M were engaged by 1 and 2 and they returned fire, which we evaded and they did not. Two nil to us.

Floyd was on the hot leg as Veiland and I turned cold. He engaged another SU-30M and as before that ship returned fire, but this time but Floyd and he were hit. 3-1 to us.

Veiland and I continued to monitor north and asked Fury to assist when free (of SEAD targets). We engaged a two ship of MiG-29S and a flight of EA-18-AG (?) which are jamming F/A-18's. I killed one of the 18's and an SU-30M that sneaked in from somewhere.

After Cowboy had completed their passes we were down to heaters and Veiland had one slammer left. As Cowboy departed Veiland killed a loitering MiG-29S in the near east.

Final score - 6-1.

After that we returned to base safely.

Lessons learned were not to get too close to the enemy and to try to maintain an altitude advantage.

SA needs work to ensure wingman and element support.

A very enjoyable mission.

Flight Role: SEAD
FURY11: ZIPGUN AA=1 AG=1 RTB
FURY12: WILDCAT AA=2 AG=0 RTB

Smooth INGRESS with Falcon calling out mud 11s as they found them. While they were engaging hostiles, we decided to push through and clear the SA-11 near the target - to afford them room to engage. This 88 shot hit and cleared the target area. We noticed more SA-11s ~40nm north of the target, so we decided to use our remaining HARMs on them.

My shot seems to time-out in the ACMI, which is strange -- it was fired at about 42 miles and showed a ToF of 93 seconds which is well below the 160s limit of the 88. Best guess is the 11 went dark and the missile lacked terminal guidance. Both of Wildcat's shots had the same effect - missed in final acquisition phase. Because the targets were so far north (and not a factor to mission success), I decided not to do a standard wild weasel tactic to keep the 11 active until impact. This seems to give a lower pk which I think is fine, given they were secondary targets and we are getting low on air-frames.

EGRESS and recovery was good.
