Flight Role: Sweep
Panther11: "utopic" AA=2 AG=0 KIA
Panther12: "Poppy" AA=1 AG=0 RTB
Panther13: "Ironman" AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Panther14: "Zipgun" AA=3 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: PS

Upon coming close to the western most CAP steerpoing we became engaged with a few Mig23s which me managed to kill all of them, while losing Ironman to unknown causes (as he wasn't engaged). After clearing up the 23s we reset east and came back. At that point I got fired upon multiple times, by an SA6 that looked to be east of the last known flot line. I didn't manage to dodge the missiles and got shot down.

Flight Role: Sweep
Fury11: "Griffin" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Fury12: "Floyd" AA=2 AG=0 EJT
Fury13: "Veiland" AA=1 AG=0 EJT
Fury14: "Elmo" AA=1 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: PS

Took off and flew to CAP area with little to concern us other than seeing MiG 23 spikes west of Panthers CAP area, which I broadcast to them.

Out CAP was uneventfull for the first half. Then MiG 23s started probing but everytime we locked them up they turned tail and tried to drag us into SA-6 range. There were a LOT of them around.

When we did get the chance to shoot something it became very busy, very fast. Keeping SA was difficult as odd behaviour of the enemy aircraft was evident. I need to look at an ACMI of this to determine the full details. We had a couple of engagements with MiG21s that culminated in a turning fight. Multiple Archer in bounds were heard and evaded. I think Floyd got the first one and Elmo the next. Good flight support shown there.

We had some more engagements of a similar type. Unfortunately Veiland was hit from behind before he and Elmo could drag the enemy to me and Floyd. We avenged him though with two more kills.

By this time I was Winchester and loitered while Floyd and Elmo attacked two MiG-23s. Unfortunately they had friends and we lost Floyd. Elmo ran and he joined on me to RTB.

I'll hopefully add more when I get an ACMI to review.

EDIT - Downloaded Sharpe's ACMI (thanks Sharpe)and reviewed all flights. My flight's scored amended to suit.

It should read
Floyd 2-0
Elmo 1-0
Sharpe uploaded an ACMI to Squadron/Flight 1 channel.

Mission Success

Python11”Sharpe” AA2/AG0
Python12”Scruffy”AA2/AG0
Python13”Vosene”AA1/AG0

Simple flight out, set up In chainsaw approximately NE to SW over the CAP, initially seemed like we were going to miss all the action. We had to set up our CAP further to the south west owing to SA6 threats near the FLOT. Eventually we started to get a few singles trickling down from the north (possibly remnants from blue or blacks AO?).

Scruffy saw a Mig (21?) transiting across our front and he engaged that one and killed it supported by Vosene.

Later, Vosene engaged another singleton and ended up in a merge supported by me. As the bandit was not showing on my FCR I was forced to merge too. Vosene popped the bandit with his last missile in a nice clean kill after being able to extend away and reverse back onto the target while it danced around with me. Vosene RTB’d Winchester at this point.

Next up was Sharpe, who engaged a Mig23 which seemed to easily dance around two AIM7 shots so I had to finish him off with a heater.

After staying on station for a bit longer Scruffy initiated an engagement with a pair of Mig23’s, supported by Sharpe. We split the formation and Sharpe scored a quick kill on the left Mig23 while Scruffy kept the other Mig busy. We then fought the Mig23 as a 2v1 and Scruffy claimed an excellent kill.

It is worth analysing Scruffy’s kill (I have an ACMI if anyone wants it). I have noticed that (1v1) if the Mig23 is in a merge for too long and no one is really getting anywhere the Mig tries to use its power to go vertical from a circle fight and go for a position kill. However, when it goes vertical it leaves itself vulnerable to a heater shot if the F16 has the energy to go for a high alpha snap shot. This leaves the Mig23 silhouetted against the cold sky with its reheat on max – leaving a good Pk shot opportunity. This is extremely well demonstrated by Scruffy who must have had his eyes on the Mig23 at all times as he executed this manoeuvre perfectly.

So to quote the RAF phrase: “He who sees, kills”.

A good flight all round.

One point to note: Some of the people in my flight noted some extremely odd AI behaviour (flying upside down in transit, hopping around etc). We ought to keep an eye on this as I seem to remember we noticed some odd stuff in Balkans and eventually the campaign became more and more corrupted. I don't know if there is anything that can be done3 to prevent/help this?

- Sharpe

I saw some irritating stuff, too. AI planes accelerating from 400 to 2000+ within a second.
Can all pilots re-type their bandwith setting again and PRESS ENTER OR TAB to confirm
the entry. Then save the settings for later use in the phonebook.

It is suspicious if pilots ask for the IP because they've lost the phonebook entry in BMS ;-)

Flyod,
I will make sure I do this, but can I suggest BEFORE everyone connects to 1st chat this coming Sunday we all go through this process step by step to make sure everyone has done it.

We should then make a list of those who didn't fly and every time someone fly's that was not there this coming Sunday, we make them do the same thing (irrespective of their stated settings).

I would be happy to manage this for you if you like?

-Sharpe
