Following on from the success of the Fairford meet we have an opportunity for a LAN meet in October because RC Simulations are holding an FSX 1st birthday party on Saturday 20 October in Bristol and Bob has very kindly offered the 185th a pitch.

The event will be from 10am-4pm and the cost will only be £3 per head and this will go to charity.

We can use this opportunity to have a very cheap 185th LAN meet and do a little bit of recruiting at the same time.

The event will be held in the Beeches Hotel, the same venue as the last time we attended. We can setup on the Friday evening followed by a few drinks and stay in a local hotel Friday and Saturday night. We will have the LAN meet on the Saturday followed by a 185th evening out in Bristol.

If you want more details about the venue you can find them here:

http://www.rcsimulations.com/fsshow.html

We need about 10 computers and a minimum of 12 members to make it worthwhile so if you are interested in attending then please reply to this post. If you can bring equipment such as tables, computers or LAN stuff then include this info.

Vosene,

I can commit now to that weekend, certainly would like to catch up and meet new member s of the squadron. I'll be able to supply a PC and monitor with a X45 and trackIR. Also LAN equipment: switches and network cables. I can let you know closer to the date about arriving on the Friday to help with the setup.

Last time we shared twin rooms in a local hotel and cost was about £25-£30 per head for each night.

Ok guys I have done a little ringing round and have got a quote from the kensington hill guest house that is about 4 mins in car away from the venue they have twins and doubles at a cost of £22.50 a head
If this is ok with people then it can be booked.

let me know what you think or if you can get a better deal I tried to keep us local to the venue so little or no travling involed

We usually tend to go for one of the larger hotels to ensure we can all get in otherwise it becomes a major problem trying to co-ordinate the evening functions. The place you mentioned only has 14 rooms and I don't know how many twins they have available or how many we will need at this time.

I would also advise we go for somewhere within walking distance of Bristol town centre as the venue is a little way out and there isn't much else there.

Want I really need at this time is for people to let me know if they intend to commit to the event so I can determine if it is worth going forward. At the moment only 6 people have said they are going, which isn't enough to make it worthwhile. If you would like to go, even if you can't bring any LAN equipment then please post here by Sunday 26 September

Once I confirm the event will go ahead I will book the hotel for those who want it. Planning cost is £25 to £30 per night.

Vosene,

Assuming we can get the numbers up to the required, I'd be more than happy if we were to use the same hotel and fine Indian restaurant we did last time.

Fingers crossed we can get the numbers!

PS - My "very near definite" is now a "definite".

I asked the owner of the hotel-B&B if he could acom 15 people shareing and he said yes. I am aware of logistics if we are split up.
If you want me to leave it to you then thats fine.
Oh I tried 4 of the larger hotels and they were all asking 60-80 £ per nigh per person.

Kai,

I did a quick check on the net and there are several hotels within about 3km of Bristol town centre offering twin room rates for around £35 per person per night including breakfast. Without breakfast it's about £30. With a group booking of about 12 people we should be able to get a further discount.

As I said before, the current priority is to get enough people to make the event viable. It's too early to go firm on accommodation before we know numbers or even if it will be on. If we go ahead I will ask those people attending where they want to stay (and the guest house you mentioned is of course an option) and then do a group booking for those who want me to. I think early next week will be the time for accommodation discussions, assuming the event is on.
