MS
Being last to depart and with the shortest drive to work, we stayed in gate during ingress. At STP2, 2/3 split to hold offshore, 1 went in hot ... 4 rifles and four hits (according to the ACMI) although BMS reported 1 hit. 2 and 3 made a few passes with good success. #2 went defensive after being locked by an SA-10, but all made it home safely.
I'll call it MS because we seemed to have good PK on the targets. |

Mission Fail insufficient tanks destroyed.

Footnote: I think I have isolated my technical issue now. switching to AG mode locks the systems into Guns only mode and I can't get out of it by the usual means.

Posted - 01 Sep 2014 : 02:40:29 As far as I heard we didn't actually touch on the criterias but honestly if you ask me it was a failure, or at least only a partical succes since black flights intended target was unhurt. We did kill some other vehicles though. |

Mission Outcome: MS (??? I missed the beginning of the briefing so not sure what the criteria was)
On the ingress we got nails from SA-10 and when it locked up 1 and 2 we had to egress back towards steeppoint 2 followed by 3 and 4. Floyd tried one more time but again had to turn back when SA-10 locked him up. On the ACMI we never got closer to the SA-10 than 42nm but it still prevented us from reaching our target area. We decided to move up north along the FLOT giving the SA-10 a wide berth. Turning toward the flot we picked up 2 jamming contacts that runed out to be Galeb's which was taken out by Floyd and Griffin. Behind these there were further jammming contacts which was engaged by 1&2. They turned out to be SU-24's but we aborted the attack as they turned cold. Meanwhile Floyd & Griffin found some ground targets and attacked these followed by Veiland & FlyingStone. Griffin had a technical at this point and had to drop out, but not after firing all his weapons. FlyingStone was launced upon by a SA-11 but immediate reaction and going CAT1 got him out of range of the 2 missiles fired. All AG weapons gone, we headed back home. A AWACS picture showed MIG-21's at 4000 ft close behind ud. We were fairly low on fuel and MIG-21 are active shooters in this theater so we cancelled climb and picked up speed to get separation. A follow up picture reported exactly same bullseye so at this point they must have been taking off. A little later a Awacs picture showed that they were following us but this point they were trailing ~50mns behind.
Communication from 2, 3 & 4 was exellent. Had SA througout the flight. Obviously a noob flight lead will generate more chatter as I would rather ask for opionions/guidance than just dictate something potentially stupid. Another time I would proberly only ask number 3 rather than the whole flight as to keep the decison loop short.
Debrief Notes: I believe the decision to abort the attack on the designated target area was correct due to the SA-10, but maybe we should have headed home instead as we landed quite a bit later than the rest of the flightpackage Package should have had a SEAD flight. Maybe we should in general load HAD's as it will give us range to SAM threats. Maybe not super realistic, but IRL we would have a much higher level of intelligence available, so our SA would be bettter. |
