If you didn't already know it, the 185th Reservoir Dogs recently won a large Falcon 4 LAN contest, namely the LowLand Winter Tiger LAN meet. The 185th VFS was represented by BigBrother, Drummer and Sparrow from Black Flight and Maverick from Red Flight. Well done gentlemen!

You can read more about their adventure if you follow this link (pdf-document, 507kB). The document was written by Drummer (Third mission summary written by BigBrother and fourth mission summary written by Maverick).

Further more, the missions flown during the LAN meet was constructed by Minstrel, Saint and Winder, so we were well represented in that area too :). Great job guys! You will find both Minstrel's mission (Tigermeet mission 3) and Winder's mission (Operation Gallant Spear) available on the 185th TE archive, so go try them out and see for yourself what the guys above flew during the competition.

News from the 185th:

Distinguished Medal with 1 Gold Oak Leaf Cluster has been awarded to: Sparrow

Distinguished Medal has been awarded to: BigBrother, Drummer and Maverick

They are awarded the Distinguished Medal not only because of their excellent achievement in winning the 2001 Lowland Winter Tiger LAN meet, but also for their display of camaraderie and true 185th spirit, when instead of doing a furball to decide which one of them would win the grand prize: a Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS, they opted to receive the prize as a team and each get a 25% price cut on an HOTAS Cougar. Congratulations gentlemen!

News from Blue Eagles: Blue Flight have had an internal contest with the goal of making a new insignia patch for Blue Flight. The winning contribution was made by Mickey, well done mate! You can see the new Blue Eagles insignia patch on the roster. The 185th banner has been updated with the new art, so you don't have to change anything if you use it for posting at Delphi.

Winder reports that Triton has passed the Basic Navigation and Bullseye course. Well done, Triton.

Here is the formal report, "Ultimate Bull":

"As Nav and Bull officer I am delighted to inform all that Our Illustrious CO has been successful in the B&N course, despite the instructor throwing a total curved ball by calling a reversed Bullseye position of his own aircraft (miles for bearing and vice versa) which resulted in Triton flying about 80 miles in totally the wrong direction, despite this he successfully located the instructors plane in a minimum of time once the CORRECT Bullseye was called!! Triton is also a prize winner with full military honours in lights and a goldfish in a plastic bag (please!)

Winder."

and he later continued with:

"I forgot to add that the whole event nearly failed utterly as we were both sitting in ICQ on Invisible waiting for the other to show up! I even sent Triton an e-mail telling him to get with it!!! LOL!!!"

This will be the new motto in the 185th. We will move away from K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) to a much more interesting approach K.I.S.A.S.A.P.B.N.S. (Keep It Simple, As Simple As Possible, But No Simpler), LOL! Thanks for allowing me to share that Winder :).

Training Ribbon has been awarded to: Triton

PS - unofficially KTel is also awarded the "Sneeky Bugger of the year award" for his sneeky construction of the "Supply and Demand" mission :). Indeed, KTel is a sneeky bugger. Well done mate, keep it up, hehe.

A new ribbon has been added to the 185th award ribbons. Here is the art and definition:

The definition for the Squadron- and Unit Commendation ribbons has been changed to:

Squadron Commendation - Commendation for outstanding work within the 185th VFS.

Unit Commendation - Commendation for outstanding work within a specific 185th flight.

This to better reflect the use of the ribbons in the past and future. All information on the 185th ribbons can be found on the 185th Rank System and Awards page.

News from the 185th:

Achievement Medal has been awarded to: Sergant San

Due to his excellent initiative of making the 185th patch into a real patch, using a company in the UK and then personally see to it that anyone interested received the patch through the mail, all over Europe, Sergant San is hereby awarded the Achievement Medal.

Congratulations Sergant San, well done mate!

The TE archive is now up to date with the latest official missions, "185 CAS" and "Supply & Demand".

I have also added a couple of missions to the members archive. They are both from the Lowland Tiger LAN meet that took place a while ago with 185th participation. As soon as I get a summary from the guys who attended that meet I will make it available for all to see. The missions are "Operation Galant Spear" made by Winder and "Tigermeet Mission 3" made by Minstrel. Thanks for sending them in guys!

The SHL has been updated with results from the "185 CAS" TE. Top scorer was Rabies who achieved 35 points. Runner up was Wolverine with 34.75 points. Well done gentlemen.

Longevity Service Award has been awarded to: Triton

Meritorious Unit Citation with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster has been awarded to: Triton

Meritorious Unit Citation with 1 Gold Oak Leaf Cluster has been awarded to: Muffin

Congratulations to Triton and Muffin!

You had all better make sure Triton never gets shot down while feet wet, cause with all those ribbons he will sink like a stone :).

  13th November - 2001

Senior Instructor for the Basic Navigation & Bullseye Course, Winder, reports that Homer, 2ic in Grey Ghosts and SeaWolf, pilot in Blue Eagles has passed the Basic Navigation & Bullseye Course. Well done gentlemen!

News from the 185th: Because of his new job, Cryingman, unfortunately can't fly on Sundays anymore. He therefore asked for and has been granted a transfer from Blue Eagles to Grey Ghosts effective immediately.

  8th November - 2001

Official results from the Inter-Squadron flight Vs the 53rd Warhammers are now in. It was a 3-1 victory for the 185th Reservoir Dogs! Congratulations and well done to all who flew it and thanks to the 53rd for another enjoyable event.

Of course, there were flights that suffered more or less technical problems and that is unfortunately something that can be expected when you are flying human Vs human due to Falcon 4's online limitations, but I'm sure most that have taken part in an event such as this agree that it is worth it.

There were fewer then usual air-air engagements because of the effectiveness of the US ADA over the target. Certainly many has developed a new appreciation for the lethality of the stinger missile and the sinister mind of Triton :).

The following pilots has been awarded accordingly:

Air Achievement Medal has been awarded to: Saturn

Air Achievement Medal with 1 star has been awarded to: Homer and Sergant San

Air Achievement Medal with 2 stars has been awarded to: Winder

Air Achievement Medal with 4 stars has been awarded to: BigBrother

Joint Services Commendation with 1 star has been awarded to: BigBrother

First Blood Ribbon has been awarded to:

Maverick, Phantom, Saturn, SeaWolf, Skiman and Snelle

First Blood Ribbon with 1 star has been awarded to: MadDogMcQ, Sarge and Sergant San

First Blood Ribbon with 2 stars has been awarded to: BigBrother, Homer, KTel and Winder

First Blood Ribbon with 3 stars has been awarded to: Jester and Saint

First Blood Ribbon with 4 stars has been awarded to: Triton

Combat Action Ribbon has been awarded to: Triton

Congratulations to all of you, especially to Phantom for being the first lady in the history of the 185th VFS to be awarded a combat ribbon and to Triton for being the first one who receives the Combat Action Ribbon for 5 successful Air-Ground missions Vs human opposition.

The following pilots has been removed from the 185th Reserves Roster and are considered as retired from the 185th Reservoir Dogs VFS:

Archer, Black Cat, Buzz and Demon

They are of course welcome to reapply to the 185th VFS in the future if they so wish.

  7th November - 2001

The TE Rota has been updated till January 2002.

The TE archive has been updated with all official 185th missions. I have also added a lot of missions submitted by MadDogMcQ, Saint and Triton. Thank you all for submitting them.

Since no one stepped forward to re-save the old missions to RP5 (quite understandable since there are so many missions, hehe), I have simply added a new column that indicates under what version of Falcon 4 the TE was created.

Due to technical problems that we all suffered with the last official mission, that mission is scratched from the 2001 Sierra Hotel League. Many of us still took the opportunity to fly as we just flew missions for fun, for instance I heard that Triton buzzed the tower, Maverick style, at 800+ knots in a F4 Phantom, hehe...

Continuity Award has been awarded to: MadMax

Congratulations MadMax!
