Have we changed the Campaign flight night to Saturday, or should it read 17 Jan 21 in the title?

Flight Role: Strike Gamble31: "Vosene" AA=0 AG=1 RTB Gamble32: "Gekko" AA=0 AG=1 EJT Gamble33: "Noodle" AA=0 AG=2 EJT Gamble34: "Scooter" AA=0 AG=0 TECH

Took off behind other flight, which was also a Strike but with swing role to Escort. Almost immediately nails from a 29 to the NW/W so we checked right 30 degrees to avoid. Gamble34 had HOTAS problems, tech declared.
On track we descended to low-level, noses cold, but then got calls from Jackel4, who were 15miles NW of us, that there were engaging threats. Two of their flight got shot down and Jackel41 had to RTB.
Gamble3 were clear and pressed to North. 2nm trail between each aircraft we turned West together 60nm from target and closed to combat spread. At 40nm from target we initiated a combat climb to A25 and launched on the targets at 30nm with SDB. All targets were hit as fragged and 3 of the 4 runways were knocked out.
During the pop-up #2 detected some MiG-29 scrambling from the airfield but #1 didn’t get anything on radar or RWR. Immediately after firing the plan had been to turn cold and descend back to low-level to the East. #1 instructed the flight to descend but this was a mistake. With the MiG-29 now hot the flight should have remained high. This put us in a position of burning more fuel in burner at low-level and at a tactical disadvantage against the MiGs.
#1 instructed flight to climb as #3 was calling Joker then Bingo. #1 called for #1 and #2 to turn North and #3 to turn South to try and get one element naked. All the while AWACS was calling picture clear and negative contacts on the bogey dope calls but we had 2x MiG-29 behind us. #1 was also trying to get F-18 to our NW to support.
As the RWR went naked we turned hot but in the engagement #3 and #2 were both shot down by IR missiles. By this point D/L was not working correctly and #1 could not find the hostiles on radar. Reviewing the ACMI afterwards, both #1 and #3 had the MiG-29s stationary and then warping around, which was why we couldn’t pick them up. One MiG just disappeared, the other was shot down by the F-18.
#1 then RTB’d, fuel critical, all the while getting picture clear calls despite their being enemy aircraft within 100nm.
Overall, for the Strike a mission of two halves, went to plan until weapons release but then technical issues began, which prevented us being able to engage MiGs correctly.
Host did not have warping issues on their tape so likely bandwidth related although no blue text. Might have been related to simultaneous launch of 24 SDB and their bubbles being created. Might also be related to Gamble34 being CS or due to some corruption with the campaign files.
Intent is to fly the next campaign mission and see if there are continuing issues.

We planned a low/fast run with BLU107s by #1#2 with #3 staying high to monitor air threats. However, before getting very far we ran into enemy contacts, the first was a SU27 singleton. With #2 closer, he took a shot and destroyed it but got shot down by the return fired AA12. With another 4 ship Mig29 closing, #1 dropped stores to support #3 who was already closing. With 3 120s in the air, he was shot down and all his missiles... missed. #1 then followed up with 3 more slammers in TWS, getting 3 hits, but with joker weapons and down to a single-ship, was forced to bug out and RTB, chased by a Mig29-2 ship and the remaining Mig 29, followed up by at least 1 SU27. En route to homeplate, #1 was caught with a gorilla group of Mig29s and SU27s just to the west of the route, so fired the last 120 at the nearest threat (SU27), taking him out, then sprinted for home. Straight in approach with the Base Defence assisting to clear his 6.
As a note, none of the AA12s launched at us (and there were lots) registered as missile warnings on the RWR.
Lessons learnt:- 1. Don't be over-ambitious with the plan - 1 airbase destroyed would be plenty for a 2-flight package. 2. Until we have air superiority (if not supremacy) we have no freedom of movement - always take a 4-ship Escort. 2. Set the flight plan further east to avoid the enemy air threat.
