Well we have done a decidedly sneaky deal with Chinese. We have set up some Balck Ops at an airbase on the Chinese border. One place that is giving us problems is Inon AB where a SU-27 squadron is a threat to any missions the Sneaky Beakies want to arrange.

Your job is to take off in two elements, fly low, neutralise the SAM threats on the way and destroy the runway before the next SU 27 sweep takes off.

Stick to the route which should keep you out of radar contact and hide not only you but hopefully where you came from.

MS - No losses to radar SAMs and runway put out of action.
PS - One loss to radar SAMs and runway out of action.

Immediate failure if SU-27s get airborne.

Weapon choice is free, but no stand off weapons can be used for runway attack.

Gamble11 “Noodle” EJT
Gamble12 “Mango” EJT
Gamble13 “Vosene” RTB
Gamble14 “Fisty” RTB

***Scores to be added***

Gamble11 and 12 were tasked to strike the eastern 2 sections of the runway as the western end of the runway was covered by ZU-23.
Gamble13 and 14 were tasked to clear a maximum of enemy air defences 30secs ahead of 11 and 12.

After take-off and successful rejoin, we held over STP4 until we pushed to target at low altitude with an ETA of 1748.
Gamble13 spotted a hole in the overcast we could use to get on the deck. Uneventful low-level ingress.
We knew where the main air defences were during mission planning and specific targets were assigned but due to the modelling of cluster bombs in BMS 13 and 14 did not get good results and we were met with heavy air defences over target. With ZU-23 tracers all around, Gamble11 managed to get bombs on target but had to eject after being hit about halfway through the runway.
Gamble12 was also shot down. Note that 11 and 12 were also too slow (below 400kts).

Gamble13 took the lead, sorted VHF problems and was able to get back home safely after what sounded like a challenging approach.

Key learning points:
Speed over target was too slow.
Clusters might not have been the best idea due to BMS modelling.
Time separation between the two elements should've been max 30secs to be a full surprise for the enemy air defences.
With heavy air defences over target, 2mins to spare and Gamble14 having two bombs remaining Gamble 11 and 12 should've aborted initial pass to re assess situation after a second pass from Gamble14
Better mission planning due to overcast.

I will be flying this mission again tonight, 2000UK, added to ATO.

I have re-flown the mission yesterday, still heavy air defences over target but I was able to destroy the first section of the runway and managed to get back home safe but took a few hits.
