Mission Debrief
============

Briefed on Departure and Arrival SOP, use of ITO interactive map, use of airport diagram for important information and airfield orientation, including use of HSI. Also briefed overhead break, pattern numbers and closed turn on a touch and go.

Departure as per SOP.

Practiced moving into Formation. Priority is ABC - Altitude, Bearing, Closure in that order.

Worked on the correct sight picture and distance for Close Trail and then Echelon Right.

Discussed deconfliction responsibility especially between Wingmen in different positions.

#1 setup the flight for overhead break onto R14R. Inital was 2nm and 2000ft before airfield. Poor setup from #1 who failed to instruct flight to Echelon Left or Close Trail, combined with seperation of Flight left #2 having to avoid #1 during the break.

Lessons - ensure flight is in correct formation for break away from Echelon. Work on formation integrity, fight to retain correct position - ABC.

After that it was pattern work until the end of the flight. Right pattern on 14R with touch/go or go-around closed turn from end of runway, climbing turn to downwind at 1500ft and 250 knots.

Lessons -
Fight to get the numbers - Fly a good, tight pattern.

Don’t accept deviations.

Flying a good pattern is a perishable skill that requires regular practice ie it needs to be practiced regularly!

Raise gear for closed turn until established on downwind.

Numbers-

Initial - 2000ft, 350 knots

Break - 1500ft, 350 knots, 80 degrees, 3.5g, reduce speed to 250 knots.

Downwind - 1500ft, 250knots. Gear and let speed reduce to 200 knots.

Perch - 45 degrees line through missile rail to thresholds indicate point to turn base.

Turn to Base/Final

45 degree bank turn for final
6-7 degrees FPM down
1.5-1.7G
180-190K IAS

Final
2.5pitch
FPM on landing point (already adjusted for crosswind)
Boards out (if not already)
Adjust power until FPM at top of AOA bracket
Idle over threshold
Flare to 13 degrees AOA
Land

After Landing
Aero brake to 90 knots
Nose gear down
Brake
Less 60 knots: NWS on

Go-Around Closed Turn
Climbing turn from end runway until on downwind at 200-250 knots
