It’s lights out time! This begins an effort to reduce the supply and fuel available to the DPRK war machine in an effort to starve their will to fight. Our mission this week targets 2 nuclear power plants near P’Yongyang that feed factories in the area – future missions will target the third. The following graphic shows the power grid, hitting these power plants will take all connected factories offline.
The package will consist of 3 flights: Strike, SEAD, and Escort (sweep) – objectives are:
- LOBO1 – Reactors at both sites and other targets if ordinance allows (911th @ Chongju) TO= 1803
- PANTHER1 – Kill SA-11 launchers at 3 P’Yongyang locations, kill any active SA-11s. (911th @ Chongju) TO= 1801
- PYTHON1 – Provide air cover for the package (912th @ Yeoncheon) TO= 1800
The target area intel is as follows:
Lobo1 – 4 ship equipped with GBU-54 L-JDAMs The Weapons Officer has determined that the targets require the following ordinance: ...... Primary Targets: STP-8 Reactor – 3 GBU-54s --- STP-7 Nuclear Plants(x2) – 3 GBU-54s each ...... Secondary Targets: 1 GBU-54 each Targets are covered by optically aimed AAA
Panther1 – 4 ship SEAD – 1st element has HARMs for active threats -- 2nd has AGM-65s …… Three SA-11 battalions are believed to be out of supply, PPT56 – 2TEL, PPT57- 1TEL, PPT58- 2TEL === Launchers may be moving, make best effort to interdict …… Lead may swap for HARMs/AGM-65s/CBUs if Escort plays dual role – reduction of AAA guns would be a desirable secondary
Python1 – 4 ship Escort/Sweep – Air cover and possible flex SEAD role
IDM and TACAN are per SOP

Took off, crossed the flot and on the way in, we had nothing but search radars for triple-A. Asked #3 to engage the search radars.
While continuing towards the target we had a popup SA11 west of the target, no factor for the strike flight but I took it out anyway.
Between the flight, we engaged other targets of opportunity - search radars - with the purpose of the getting rid of the Harms.
After the strike flight finished engaging their targets both primary and secondary, we came south behind Lobo and landed.
The landed got a little bit messy, as we ended up on top of Lobo on landing, and 1,3 and 4 went around, while 2 landed on 23 right.
Overall, a good mission, good comms, good SA, good sorting. |

Uneventful ingress and progress to target, split at STP 5 for target alignment. All weapons away, successful hits.
RTB.Because of the split ended up as two elements 3+4 ahead 1+2 for landing. Then overrun by Panther flight so landing was interesting.
Sabre Next time get clearance before landing |

Why did you get over-run by Panther flight?
We had clearance, but got told to go around cos someone was going around in circles! |
