Flight Role: TASMO
Falcon11: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=0 RTB
Falcon12: "Noodle" AA=0 AG=1 EJT
Falcon13: "Noodle" AA=0 AG=0 RTB

PS

Take off was good to SP 2 at 5000ft. Turned to SP3 and warmed up maverick G's. DL was iffy. No3 didn't have UHF 6 on at first. Once he did our IDM was good but Gamble 12 never showed. (on DMD or ASSN?)

From SP3 we descended to 100ft Radar Alt. Weather was poor and as it was a night mission we had to work hard to keep speed, altitude and SA on the money. My speed control was ropey at first but I had it under control fairly quickly.

We had spikes from SA2's on the coast searching for us. We also had fun jumping over random islands and their trees and buildings while staying low.

At SP7 we went into 2 mile trail between aircraft in preparation to turn to the targets. This should have been briefed between flights so that Gamble didn't get too close.

We climbed to 4000ft in the approach to SP8 then turned into the target. We had very low visibility (less than 10 miles) which made finding the targets difficult. We also had SA6 spikes to cater with and we went music on.

No1 got both missiles (AGM65G) off on the first pass, unfortunately at separate targets (OSAII and tanker) Nothing sunk. I went out to the west and orbited while No2 took two passes to get his Maverics on my tanker sinking it before joining me in the orbit and then hitting the sea (Cougar issues). He managed to eject. No 3 took three passes and launched his missiles but hit nothing.

After Gamble 1 joined on us we RTB'd, No3 landing rather hard!

The mission is available in the Team Speak Squadron Channel file browser (Wave-Hopping.zip)

A challenging and fun mission if I say so myself.

Enjoy.

Plan

Stay low-level, follow Falcon1 into target and engage with 2x AGM-65 per target.

Execution

Departure as fragged, climbed to Angles 4 before descending to low-level as we turned West on edge of SA-2. No issues during ingress, which was challenging at just over 100ft over the sea at night.

Flight extended North for spacing from Falcon1. During this period, #2 inadvertently descended and hit the sea. Several key learning points covered at end of debrief.

Turning into target, Gamble11 was unable to find targets due to very poor weather. On second pass target was identified very late. Fired AGM-65G, which missed as too close. Should have waited to fire on next pass. On third pass hit and sunk an Osa II, which had previously been hit by one Maverick G from Falcon11.

RTB with remainder of Falcon flight, good low-level formation and a straight-in recovery onto active runway.

Learning Points

Spacing was messed up between Gamble1 and Falcon1. This was because Gamble1 planned spacing off Falcon11 and we’re not aware Falcon1 would go trail before IP. This resulted in Gamble1 being too close and required them to reposition. Not ideal at low-level at night over the sea with enemy AD threats around. This should have been coordinated during planning between the two flights.

See this post for tips on low level night flying.

This was a fun and challenging mission with a low-level ingress at night and poor weather over the target. Thanks to Griffin for writing it and making it available to the Sqn. Mission is highly recommended for offline practice as well.
