Sweep

Cowboy11 "Vosene" 0 0 RTB
Cowboy12 "Mango" 4 0 RTB
Cowboy 13 "Echion" 4 0 RTB

We ran 3 A2A BVR setups.

Key points covered were the stages of BVR, especially the sort, the Shift +1/2 and respecting the MAR. We also worked engagement tactics.

Default Formation - Champagne

1st Engagement vs 2x MiG-21

Vosene called contacts at 40nm and provided sort for #2 and #3. #3 engaged at 25nm with Slammer B, #2 engaged at 20nm with Slammer B. Both aircraft cranked and bandits were splashed with no shots away.

#1 was 10nm trail and kept picture.

Key debrief point from first engagement - Respecting the MAR with a hard reversal using Split S if required.

2nd Engagement vs 2x MiG-23

#3 had lead for this engagement. Bandits detected cold at 45nm, good sort and targeting. Bandits turned hot at 25nm but #2 missed the opportunity for an immediate shot due to slower speed around M0.85 then bandits immediately beamed. At 20nm both #2 and #3 had shots and took them before cranking. Bandits went cold and #1 kept picture. #3 splashed his bandit but #2's Slammer-B was trashed. Remaining bandit continued cold and eventually #1 turned the flight back around to the mission route.

Key debrief points - smash when maneuvering for launch. MAR was respected, opportunity to remain offensive with bandits cold.

3rd Engagement vs 4x Su-27 (Active)

#3 had lead again. Picked up bandits at 50nm, excellent sort at 35nm with #3 taking first element, #2 taking second element. #1 had set the formation up with a lateral offset, #1 to the left. #3 fired in TWS and splashed both of his bandits, great job. #2 managed to get one missile away on trail group before MAR, which also splashed his bandit. Bandits got several missiles away, all were trashed by #2 and #3 due to respecting MAR.

Offset for #1 provided flank shot opportunity onto remaining bandit for #1. Bandit trashed this shot and #1 dragged it for #2 to get the kill shot, splashing all 4 Su-27 in a 3v4 engagement with no losses. Great job.

Key Debrief Points - Use of TWS for engaging with multiple Slammers, value of respecting the MAR. Offset to maneuver for kill while avoiding bandit WEZ.

Bonus Engagement #4

During the RTB, #2 picked up a contact close to #1 and declared it as the remaining MiG-23 from engagement 2. #2 successfully killed the bandit while #1 moved clear for #2 to take the shot.

Key debrief point - Great SA from #2, the need to keep eyes out for bandits even when RTB.

RTB was an overhead break on R14R at Suwon.

Overall a great mission with 8 A2A kills for no losses.
