AI/DEAD/OCA Overall, at the moment, offensive operations are being planned around Beirut, while we are consolidating our ground posture.
We are tasked to destroy the air defences in and around the industrial complex west of Damascus INT, in support of an OCA Strike against Marj Ruhayyil.
Please note that while overall the package is tasked as an OCA strike, due to the heavy air defences in the AO, the AI/DEAD flights take priority in regards to seating.
The package will consist of 3 flights: 1 OCA STRIKE and 2 AI/DEAD flights – objectives are:
- PANTHER1 – Destroy the Marj Ruhayyil runway -- Departs from the 4329th @ Hatzerim -- Payload is free = currently loaded with BLU107/Bs
- WEASEL1 – Engage air defences N-W of Marj Rhuayyil -- Departs from the 4329th @ Hatzerim -- Payload is free = currently loaded with AGM88s
- FURY2 – Engage air defences N-W of Marj Rhuayyil. Should act as escort for Weasel1, while Weasel is engaging A-G -- Departs from the 4329th @ Hatzerim -- Payload is free = currently loaded with AGM88s
Timings:
Flight Task TO PP TOT IDM VHF TACAN FL
Weasel1 AI 14:10 10:18 14:34 2 2 16/79 270
Fury2 AI 14:12 10:20 14:36 3 3 21/84 250
Panther1 OCA 14:14 14:23 14:41 1 1 11/74 290
While Weasel and Fury engage, PANTHER1 should hold at STPT4, CAP-ing W-E, with the requirement that the last AI/DEAD flight should provide status updates in advance of missile hits, so Panther can start the push to the target area.
If conditions permit, both WEASEL1 & FURY2 should provide cover for PANTHER1 if Panther is able to engage A-G.
Mission success: PANTHER1: Marj Ruhayyil runway destroyed. WEASEL1: 75% units hit for ordnance expended, per flight. FURY2: 75% units hit for ordnance expended, per flight.

May be worth considering the Spice 2000P for the runway denial. Should give about 20nm stand-off and the 2000P is the equivalent of the BLU-109 variant.

Good flight in, found at least 4 battalions of SA-17s near Damascus. No air threats were faced during DEAD operations, MIG-21s were not active until later. A total of 4 launchers were destroyed, a low yield but within mission expectations.
Post-flight debrief mentioned the masking of an SA-17 in a building courtyard, this unit cannot be hit by normal tactics. If it is considered a high priority, the building will have to be leveled first. |

Uneventful ingress, we CAP'd while weasel hunted SAMs, hitting their SA17 targets. After that we switched roles, but for some reason, all our missiles missed their targets. A disappointing result for a good mission with good comms, flying and good coordination between flights.
Recovery was a straight in approach in trail, after we overtook Weasel11, who was bent ;)
