Today's mission entails killing two high value assets on the coast of Croatia. These are two factories, one of which is already damaged. Both are within a few miles of each other.

They do have local AAA defence as well as a number of known infantry battalions with manpads. It is safe to presume that there may be more unknown groups in the area.

There are three flights from Avaino (1852nd Squadron). Package number is 1395.

Viper 3, the escort, takes off at 17.30hrs.
MS - No losses to strike/AI flights from air assets.
PS - Max of two losses from strike/AI flights.

Lobo 1, the strike flight, takes off at 17:32hrs.
MS- Both factories destroyed along with their warehouses.
PS- Both factories destroyed.

Weasel 3, the AI flight, takes off at 17:34hrs.
MS - At least 4 kills per aircraft on the 30th towed AAA battalion.
PS - At least 3 kills per aircraft on the 30th towed AAA battalion.

Happy Flying.

Flight Role: (ESCORT) **Package command**
Viper31: Poppy AA=2 AG=X RTB
Viper32: Wildcat AA=2 AG=X KIA
Viper33: Zipgun AA=5 AG=X RTB

Mission Outcome: MS *no losses to strike flights from AA threats*

Ingress and Egress as fragged, coordinated ToT and landing order with package. On landing Viper overshot the airbase and set up for a base leg on 23. By that time Lobo1 was also over the airfield and they had to deconflict with us. Noted for debrief. Also their was armour on the runway. Not too happy about that.
Otherwise good comms, good playtime over target and the cover on egress CAP area was helpful, thanks.

In the AO we we're first committing on a group of MiG-21s out of Split but they we're engaged by friendly F-15's when we had them at 40 mi. So picture clear, we set up our CAP (anchor) area as fragged north of Split at medium altitude. There we're two risks we took taking this tactic: unknown SAM/AAA threats, and the closeness of bandits from Split. We we're right on top of the action so to speak. The idea was that if one picks up a bandit, to handoff to the next guy who is shooter. Then extend, regain SA, get a picture, and rinse and repeat.
Just after setting up the CAP on the northern most point Viper31 was defensive against an SA-6 (2x SAM) then rejoined in. the CAP. Then again from the city of Split (just east of Split AFB) on the southern most CAP point, again 2x SAM launches.
Viper 32 chased a G-4 in the same area, but was not locked upon by SA-6, but getting close suddenly it lit up and fired from 5.4miles, and Viper32 was KIA. No way anyone could have dodged that SAM unfortunately.
Getting back to the CAP the G-4 were underneath us, and did commit to us on our sixes so a delouse call was needed from 3, getting CAF by a break call we we're somewhat safe again. Now a two ship we held the CAP for a couple of minutes getting shots off at the bandits (4 ship) from Split and egressed with a mixed air picture.
Handing off target worked given the scores, and we prioritised threats primarily for the Mig-21/29 threat.

Lessons learnt:
1) The G-4's committed A-A, and with their heaters are much more of a threat, equal to Mig-21.
2) There are at least 2 active SA-6's in the target area plus Split airbase. The area east of Zadar needs SEAD and OCA strikes to be able to do CAS in peace.
