This week the teams attempted a simple looking sortie to Escort a group of B1s to their target and home again divided into 2 seperate 3 ship flights taking off at 2 minute spacing. The reality of the mission was that flight schedule was extremely tight meaning that the teams had to proceed with extreme haste to get into a position to defend the bombers from attack. Unfortunately, none of the teams managed to get on station quickly enough, meaning that the bombers were decimated by the first engagement resulting in all teams reporting a failed mission.
Blue and Black combined forces for the night and were decimated in an ultimately futile attempt to save the bombers. 1 pilot returned from the 6 who departed, however the team did manage to down 8 enemy aircraft between them.
Red led superbly by Turnburn and bolstered by Command also lost 3 bombers to the first engagement without being in a position to return fire before it was too late. Once the smoke cleared, 5 pilots returned home with 8 AA kills between them. Turnburn claimed top score on the night with 51 points which included 3 personal AA kills and a safe return to base.
Green just claimed the honours this week with 230 points by virtue of taking 10 AA kills with the loss of only 2 pilots in a good team performance under testing circumstances. Sabre also managed 3 AA kills. Bigdawg jumps to the top of the individual Month to date standings.
With 1 mission to go in MAY, the monthly team award is heading towards Black who have a slender 9 point lead over the improving Greenwith Red and Blue still in contention.
In the Quarter/YTD standings, Black take a slight advantage over early pace setters Blue, with Vosene retaining his lead in the individual standings but with a reduced margin.
