Flight Role: SEAD
Fury11: "Vaughan" AA=1 AG=1 RTB
Fury12: "Floyd" AA=0 AG=0 RTB
Fury13: "Grifin" AA=2 AG=1 RTB

Result: MS

First encounter was with a 2-ship bandit which was over the target area. We handed them off to the escort and took a single right-hand orbit. After this, we engaged the SA-17s with our HARMS.

Second engagement was against a 4-ship MiG29S. We got 3 of them and I think Python1 got the last one.

AWACS directed us to engage a 2-ship MiG29S, which turned cold and dragged us towards the southern SA-17. Rather than trespass, we handed them over to Python1.

Griffin was winchester and RTB'd. He picked up bandits over home plate and diverted to Pohang. We monitored the engagement over homeplate, but didn't get drawn into it.

RTB was without incident.

Great mission, Homer!

Flight Role: SEAD
Python1: "Sabre" AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Python13: "Mango" AA=0 AG=2 RTB
Python 14: "Skal" AA=1 AG=0 EJT

After take off proceeded as fragged, aware of two air to air engagements to our 11 and 1 O'clock.

Just before we entered the SA17 zone we were asked to engage the northern group of Mig 29's. I asked Mango to engage the SA17's and the AI and myself engaged the Mig 29's. Big mistake, I was shot down by the SA 17, should have told AWACS unable against the Mig 29's or re-routed outside of the SA 17 circle...

Mango to continue..

Falcon 12: "Blade" AA=0 AG=0 EJT

Mission Outcome:MF
We picked up a contact at approx. 40 miles, 30deg's left and then soon after a 2nd contact approx. 20 degs left and approx. 10/20 miles trail of first group. Both groups within SAM threats.

The groups split. 1st group went west, 2nd group continued course towards us, effectively bracketing us. I was unsure what to do, hesitated for a minute as to turn to either group would mean being flanked by the other. Because of that hesitation we were engaged by them anyway and killed.

On reflection I think the correct course would have been to ask for assistance on the northern group and engaged the North Western group. Or just to turn away and warn everyone else to do the same until we could re-engage in a more structured fashion.

Flight Role. Strike.
Cowboy11: Novac AA=0 AG=1 RTB

Result MS.

Plan was for a high altitude attack using a pair of GBU 31 v1/b this would have me at the edge of the SA17 engagement zone.

Shortly after takeoff my PC suffered a BSOD. On rejoining the flight the Escort were down.

I proceeded to target area but was getting 29 spikes on my 9 o-clock. I did a couple of orbits to the east while the 29's were engaged then turned it hot to target.
On my 1st run I came off the target dry as I'd already missed my release cue for the GBU31's. It seems you can release them a lot further away than I expected at high alt.
One quick 360 turn and I released a pair of bombs on the bridge.

I didnt get any spikes from ground threats except AAA when I strayed a little close.
Good job SEAD.

And I never felt threatened by any air threat. I think the 29 spikes I was getting were concentrating their efforts on the area of the southern bridge.
Good job all!

I then RTB'd

Nice mission provoking a lot of thought during mission planning

Was briefed to do a formation takeoff but ended up doing a rolling takeoff due to winds. We got up high and tried to fly on caret, which we did until getting close to the SA17.

Because the SA17 were up, there were Mig29s and the SEAD flight was engaging them, I made the call to turn SW and monitor the other airports that might have thrown intercepts at us. We ended up doing some sort of circuit between a S/SW direction to the SA17s.

At some point we were asked to provide support and engage a Mig29 over the SA17 but before breaking MAR and trespassing the SA17 threat circle, I called a disengage and let AWACS know. The area was saturated with jamming contacts, the 29 was also jamming and there was no way for us to sort. Maddogs were out of the question.

That 29 was eventually taken out by the escort, I think, Tiag engaged and then called RTB. I was following the strike flight, planning to cover his back on RTB but AWACS called for us to take care of some bandits at home plate.

We had the fuel so we went gate, sorted and engaged. I got 1 kill, Homer got 1 kill (& damaged another). At debrief I thought that went well, but looking at the ACMI, I realized he was sandwiched between enemy elements. Luckily, no one engaged him.

The rest of the bandits were cold so I decided to disengage. We got to homeplate, but there was a lot of traffic with Tiag making an emergency landing because of fuel situation.

Decided to land at alternate, did a break which looked good until we almost landed on each-other.

Homer, after looking at the ACMI, I think the cause for that was that you turned downwind immediately after me, you should have waited ~5 seconds before getting on the brake.

Other than that, kudos to Homer for staying in formation all the way, he was in position every time I looked at him!

Interesting mission, I think it raised some serious problems for the package engaging the northernmost target, as they were almost surrounded by bandits. Homer you sneaky devil! :P

Just want to add that I found that the 2 package format added a lot of interest. It demonstrated the need for good inter-flight comms - especially Raygun, Buddy Spike and Buddy Lock calls!

I too noticed that whilst reviewing the ACMI. If they were a more aggressive flight of fighters rather than bombers I would have been in trouble. I blame it on target fixation - I was too focused on the locked target to take into account trailers. Lesson learned.

I enjoyed flying with utopic cos he was a very good flight lead - steady and consistent with his own flying, but always called out the changes to fly params before he made them. He actually made "I'm not leaving my wingman" (God bless Top Gun) easy!
