Flight Role:SEAD

Panther42: "AI" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Panther43: "Blade" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Panther44: "AI" AA=0 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: MF

Once airborne we climbed to A30 and raced ahead to engage the SA=5 threat ahead of the main package reaching the engagement zone. Unfortunately we were 30 miles ahead of the escort when engaged by 2 X SU-27. Panther Elements were separated by 10 NM. Lead element turned cold on reaching MAR, and seeing the SU-27's start to flank, and without a shooting solution. 2nd element remained hot, but it turned out that the SU-27's seemed to target the 2nd element rather than the 1st as 3 had missiles inbound almost immediately and was splashed.

Lead turned hot to re-engage, got 2 missiles off but was subsequently hit.

On reflection we probably shouldn't have raced so far ahead from the escort as once down there was no SEAD support for the package, and shouldn't have turned to re-engage, but rather should have ran towards security of the package.

Flight Role: OCA Strike
Lobo41: "Floyd" AA=0 AG=4 RTB

Mission Outcome: MS

I've modified the OOB by adding three SU-27 squadrons with the
Mission Commander and created a few SU-27 BARCAP flights.

The ingress for the strike flight was uneventful, but closer to
the target some holding pattern were needed until the air threat
was cleared. The SEAD couldn't attack the SAM sites, so we flew low
and #1 destroyed the first runway. The AI had "weapons free", but
found it ok to popup to 18k and circle the IP while hammered by
SA-2 missiles, calling out "#2, engaged defensive". #1 came in for
a second run and destroyed the second runway.

Lesson learned: always set the AI to the wanted altitude in their flight plans!

Flight Role: ESCORT
Python41 : utopic AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Python42 : "Pilot's name" AA=3 AG=0 RTB
Python43 : "Pilot's name" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Python44 : "Pilot's name" AA=3 AG=0 RTB

Enroute was uneventful, up to the point where we engaged the attackers of the SEAD flight. I was looking for the bandits higher than they actually were, couldn't get a shot and went defensive too late, by which time it was a really bad idea anyway.

What follows is Skal's debrief:

- We where ~50nm from Panther flight when they engaged the Su-27. Me and Utopic sorted on Su-27 flight. Skal fired ~10nm good hit on trail, turned to find lead, Utopic shot down by lead (looking at the ACMI, about 8nm you did a split S putting the Su-27 right on your tail close range). Mikuli located and fired on Su-27 lead, good hit.

- Formed up with within <15nm of Floyd heading toward STPT 3 providing cover. Skal engaged single Su-27 near STPT 3, Python44 (AI)and Skal fired almost at the same time. Both good hit, AI got first hit.

Turned immediately south to engage 2 ship Su-27, missiles fired simultaneously by Skal with AI on lead, both good hit, AI first hit. Mikuli sorted on trail, good hit on Su-27 (he wonderfully evaded R-77 from the aircraft too)

- Proceeded with cover to STPT 3, maintaining 15nm CAP. Chalice directed to 2 ship Mig-29 taking off on the coast. Initiated persuit. ~20nm Migs turn cold, python trespass Air Defence on the coast. Disengaged.

- Chalice advised a/c heading towards target, ID as IL-76, Skal disengaged, AI engaged, good hit.

- Formed up for RTB, headed STPT 5. Chalice advised 2 ship mig-23 SE of STPT 5. Skal sorted on lead, good hit. Mikuli sorted on trail, good hit.(Floyd fired on falling A/C)

RTB

All in all, Python Flight scored 8 AA kills (1x IL-76, 2x MiG-23, 5x Su-27)

Mikuli - 3 (1x MiG-23, 2x Su-27)
Skal - 2 (1x MiG-23, 1x Su-27)
Python44 (AI) - 3 (1x IL-76, 2x Su-27)
