Flight Role: OCA Strike - Chongju AB
Buzzard 31: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=3 RTB Buzzard 32: "Floyd" AA=1 AG=2 EJT Buzzard 33: "Vosene" AA=0 AG=0 RTB
Mission Outcome: PS
We took off and made our way to the target loaded with Durandals and Slammers.
The initial push was quiet and then enemies started to arrive. Crowebar's flight pushed west to engage one set while Elmo's flight engaged the Hawk and soem bandits coming from the SE.
There were other friendlies in the area that confused matters, particularly when their replies to Raygun calls were either poor or non-existant.
The SEAD did a great job to kill the HAwk and engage enemy air, allowing us to descend to low level to attack Chongu. At that point I noted that my steerpoints were seriously corrupted so I asked Floyd to take the lead to the target. We took one runway each, with Vosene coming in behind to add to the damage.
What we didn't see were two members of the 87th Stray Dogs on the Blue side who were a bit miffed that we'd just destroyed their home plate.
They started to chase us out and the aforementioned confusion with felloe Blue pilots ended up with me shooting Sabre and Floyd finishing him off!!
Floyd was hit by the enemy and ejected but not before taking one of them down, while Vosene and I ran for the nearest airstrip (thanks to our stand in AWACs for pointing me there) and I landed with 300lbs in the tanks. Vosene landed with fumes!
All in all a good mission though rather costly in aircraft. Comms were not as good as they should have been, not helped by "other" non 185th pilots. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Flight Role: SEAD Escort - Chongju AB
Cajun 31: "Elmo" AA=1 AG=1 EJT Cajun 32: "Jack" AA=0 AG=0 EJT Cajun 33: "Mango" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Took off and climbed to A25, on the way to steerpoint 2 saw hostile contacts 60 miles on the nose so turned West to allow Gunhog3 to engage, we then pushed South until the area was clear and then resumed flightplan, then heard AWACS call new bandits which I turned to engage and shot a missile but think it could of been a blue on blue shot but the missile missed according to the debrief. Carried onto to target at low level without any problem, all of us got shots at target with mine registering the kill. We then turned back towards home plate staying at low level initially but then I decided we should try and get some altitude due to hearing hostiles were around. It gets a bit hazy now but first we engaged a solo F15 to the West which I killed, I think we had F-16s to the East which I called for us to turn and engage and then run so I got a shot off at one and then turned cold, I think Jack got one off and turned cold and I am not sure what happened to Mango but the last I saw was he was still hot on the bandits and then called that he was in the shoot. I then had a hostile Mirage 2000 on the nose from the North and then a missile so went defensive which caused me to fly back towards incoming F-16 with Jack in toe. We turned cold on those guys and then got asked to try and delouse Griffin who had an F-16 on his tail but we had no picture then Jack called defensive and then in the shoot and not long after I was in the shoot.

Flight Role: OCA Strike - Chongju AB
Gunhog 31: "Crowebar" AA=1 AG=0 EJT Gunhog 32: "Sabre" AA=0 AG=0 EJT Gunhog 33: "Utopic" AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Mission Outcome: fail
Experienced technical issues with IDM modem not showing other members of flight, same for all 3 aircraft. Also myself and Sabre were hearing radio calls that Utopic was on the ground and should expedite departure, while Utopic felt that he was with us. Also Utopic was unable to transmit on Victor channel. He could hear us but we could not hear him.
This all led to us being 8 miles seperation, in trail when first engagement with 2 x F16's occurred. #1 fired and while cranking ordered remainder of flight to extend as they were no picture and F16's were very close. Several other flights had 'attached' themselves to our package and while we were cold, one of these friendlies killed the F16's. Unfortunately Utopic in #3 was splashed at this point. As we had no IDM picture or comms with #3 we proceeded unsure of #3's situation.
There were more air threats enroute to target however everytime something appeared the air filled with friendlies all wanting a piece of the action making for a very confused radar picture that was almost certain to result in a blue on blue.
Over target area myself and #2 provided a tarcap of sorts and turned to engage an inbound F15 from the West. #1 was first to engage and traded missiles with the F15. We both splashed each other. sabre in #2 was sole survivor of the flight at this point until splashed by members of Buzzsaw in a blue on blue incident.
having problems with both comms and IDM modem gave us quite a headache, as did the saturated sky.
Also we were locked up many times by friendlies, which are migs on RWR. It takes some getting used to calling a buddy spike when locked up by a mig-29, especially for Sabre who was flying his first mission as red air.
The IVC on Redflag seems iffy at the moment. Flew a 3 ship with Oly and Utopic tonight (Tues) with dado and 2 others providing escort. On entering the pit we had no Victor comms and had to use teamspeak. I could communicate with dado on U-13 but neither Oly or Utopic could hear U-13. same goes for channel 15. Then about 10 minutes into the flight a message told us that the IVC server was down. But the VHF issue before the crash was similar to Sunday for our flight.

I hope Utopic remembered to reset his frequencies after the AMVI mission...

Just a thought as we seem to have problems with radios pretty much every week. Does everybody know how to manually check which frequency your radio is set to for each channel using the ICP? If you are having problems do you try and manually retune the radio to the frequency that the rest of your flight are on, and if that does not work do you all then try and use a different channel to see if that works? I am sure unless your IVC client has not connected due to incorrect IP address then most problems should be able to be worked around. You should be checking your radio frequencies in the DTC before committing and always remember to save your DTC before you commit otherwise any changes you make do not transfer to the cockpit. |

Thanks for tips Elmo, but non of the above. yes we switched channels twice. Yes we checked frequencies on DED. Yes we checked frequencies in DTC before committing.
The give away was when other flights were talking of having same problems, and then cockpit text appeared from moderator reporting that IVC server had crashed.
I only mentioned it in earlier post as Sunday VHF IVC was similar to Tuesday VHF IVC before the crash.
