Falcon 1 - SEAD Strike (Blue Flight)

Ballistic FL 0 AA 1 AG RTB MS
Crowebar 0 AA 0 AG Hit Fence on Landing KIA MS
Cobra 0 AA 1 AG RTB MS
Fiero 0 AA 2 AG RTB

Ramp start, although a bit rusty went without issue.
Flew at A28 with the primary objective of taking out the 2 SA3 radars at the target and the SA2 on route to target. Crowebar reported that his cursers would not work so he was in-capable of locking up targets. The Escort flight were busy ahead of us and we didn't want to be too far behind them especially with an active SA2 on the flight path, but we did not want to interfere with AA engagements, just stick to our role as SEAD Strike. Ballistic engaged the Fang song radar suppressing the SA2 SAMs and was directed to fall back a bit by AWACs. On route back towards the target Cobra & Ballistic engaged the SA3 radars without success (The HARMs missed at long range). The flight was directed to hold back again from AWACs due to the Escort flights being busy with hostile AC and we were spiked by Mig 29s so stayed out of it. Once cleared back in by AWACs Fiero successfully destroyed the SA3 radars at close range and Cobra took out an SA17 radar/launcher that popped up to the south of the target before we RTB'd for a mission success.

Nice TE - Nice to see a good turn out for it - hope to see more next year - Thanks Griffin

Since I couldn't debrief on TS, I'll write down my perspective on the mission:

Cowboy taking off first, heading southbound following the route, and then 3xMiG-29S pops up, cowboy engaging those bandits leaving them with one ship MiG-29S, meanwhile the rest of flight were taking off or already in the air like Lobo flight which was slightly behind Cowboy flight until Cowboy were cold on the contacts.
Another 4xMiG-29A's poped up from the south while the remaining single MiG-29S merging to the East, so ideally Lobo were in a better position to engage the 4 ship and leaving the single MiG29s for cowboy flight.

At this point, the OCA, SEAD and Deep Strike flights were getting closer and closer to the battle zone, and this was the first call to hold their positions. Falcon1 were ordered to fly directly into the MiG-29S's because a 2 ship MiG-31s were getting closer and Falcon was holding west of their flight plan, and flying towards the MiG-29 won't pose a threat since Cowboy flight were miles in front of them.

After the MiG-29 were shot down, Cowboy and Falcon headed south on their flightplan, and that's were another 2 ship MiG-29s poped up and Cowboy shot them down, following another four ship flight of SU-27s that were engaged by Lobo, but the SUs were running East, then Lobo turned back in after 5 mins of tracking, when the SUs were far from our TGT area.

These were the busiest parts of the battle I believe. Engagements were smooth although we had some comms issues at some point, but generally comms were good.

Anyway, after the rest of the flights were called in, Falcon1 took the remaining SA-3's (not mentioning the quick take-out of the SA-2 on the way in) and the Strike flights bombed their targets.

Few points to raise on this one:
- Flight Leads should always respond to AWACS -unless they say "Busy"- as this improves the situation awareness of the AWACS.
- If someone is broadcasting then he has to finish his call, so you don't actually have to interrupt, as this jams the comms.
- Listening carefully to the Callsign when people on broadcast will eliminate repeating those calls again, which reduces comms.
- Managing the battlefield from God's Eye view is way better than sitting in a cockpit, which is reasonable in large scale TE's and even more effective.

Generally the mission was smooth and Flight leads did well on responding to other calls. I think we're way better than what we used to be in previous large scale TE's.

I've enjoyed that, and big thanks to Griffin for organizing this event.

Good points Snakebite but I think this one needs expanding on.

There is a priority to calls. If your call is a higher priority then you can interrupt if the call is time-critical but I'd advise you preceed your message with a break-break to give the other person a chance to go quiet.

Rules are:

If someone is transmitting with a higher priority message than you then stay quiet and wait until they have finished or use text.

If someone cuts across you with a higher priority message then stop talking.

Priority of messages (highest to lowest):

Defensive (including Buddy Spike)

Delouse

Declare

Raygun

Targeting

Picture

Shots

Admin (System eg Weapons Check)

After the ramp start we lost #2 due to technical problems and we replanned
that #1 would also attack #2's target. The flight had to hold a few times due
to the escorts clearing the way and could attack with the SAM sites closed down.
#1's BLU-107 could only damage the hangar. The flight back to base was uneventful.

@Vosene

I totally agree with the points you raised. I meant people fire up the broadcast switch and talk without even realizing that someone else is talking, without having a big importance for his message.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I was gutted when I had my tech. Damn internet died on me!

Anyway, what I would really like is your feedback. Snake mentioned it was busy on the way in. Was it busy enough on the way out? Would you have had enough AA weapons if it had been busier? Were the ground threats enough of a challenge/threat?

Also was it long enough? Would you have liked to refuel? Would we have had to start earlier if the answer to the last question was 'Yes'?

Answers to these, and any other comments you have will help me when I write the next one.

Event Vosene landed at 17:30:10
Event Theron landed at 17:30:24
Event Theron exited from Cowboy11 at 17:56:25

ramp started very successfully, cross checked with each other that all switches had been switched. started to taxi and No1 realised he forgot NWS

took off, with ai aircraft inbound from opposite direction and proceeded to stpt 3.

notified by awacs of 3x mig29s, with Lobo not yet airborne we engaged. took 2 of them down (one each) and turned defensive to r77s that had been launched at us before we even locked them up. No2 dropped his wing tanks to help with missile evasion.

we climbed again and engaged the remaining mig29, No2 took the shot.

from there it was quite quiet, we progressed towards target area, avoiding sams (we had the "A" symbol on the RWR and could hear the radar tones of the SA10 and SA17 so we were able to identify them despite having no HTS) and we monitored enemy flights in the vicinity.

towards the end of the a-g engagements No2 became fuel critical and we RTB'd a bit early for safety, with no enemy air threats near the target area.

we landed on the same runway with a few seconds spread.
