Blue/Green Merge

Falcon 1 - SEAD Escort
Ballistic
Mango
Sabre
Vosene

Weapons 4 C5 slammers, 2 Harms, 1 wing tank, 1 Maverick G (#1 #2), 3 MK82's (#3 & #4).

Took off with a spread of 10-15 miles between 1st & 2nd Element climbed to A25/30. Lead element picked up Mig 21s to NE before stpt 3 and had to engage once the enemy came in hot. 2nd Element remained on the flight plan. Ist element became overwhelmed with a 2nd wave of enemy AC (Mig 23's) & became defensive and asked for support from 2nd element. Mango was shot down and ballistic provided assistance to Sabre & Vosene who were engaging more Mig 23s from the North. Both Vosene & Ballistic were winchester AA with Sabre having 3 slammers remaining. The next wave of Migs were engaged by Sabre (with only 1 slammer not 3)and Strike package were advised that SEAD Escort were winchester AA, however Sabre was shot down. Strike flight engaged AA and Ballistic & Vosene proceeded towards the target area. Vosene was instructed weapons free on the most Westerly SA5 but his A-G weapons could not be deployed - they would not release! Vosene was instructed to RTB and Ballistic proceeded forward to catch up with the strike flight & deal with the 2 SA2s & SA3s at the target.

A 4 ship of Mig 19s were close to Ballistic so after avoiding them the SA5 was taken out to allow for a quicker approach to target with the SA3 being the primary objective. Mig 29s were picked up on radar and with Bingo fuel the Harm was released with a successful kill on the SA3 and Ballistic dropped stores and RTB'd, avoiding the Mig 19s on the return leg with help from AWACs (Mango & Vosene in the map screen).

MS for SEAD Escort but only 2 RTB'd.

A busy mission for the SEAD Escort A-A and plenty of SAms to think about. Nice one Crowebar, keep them coming :-)

SEAD Escort

1- tiag
2- Bigbrother
3- Floyd
4- Mr. AI

Loadout: 4xC5, 2xAGM-88, Wing Tanks, ALQ-131

The Plan:

Novac (Package Commander) and I decided to fly directly to the target area, heading north and overflying the first SA-5 site. This plan required the destruction of at least two SA-5s and perhaps the SA-3 close to the Mirim AB. If everything went well, we would still have plenty of HARMs to attack enemy ADs at the target area.
We also briefed that, in case the SEAD escort is not able to attack the SA-3/SA-2s at the target area, the attack flight lead by Novac should go low level to avoid the SAMs.

The Mission:

I took-off with BB followed by Floyd +AI 10nm in Box formation. I went directly to the SA-5, while BB had his eyes on the AA picture. While my HARM was flying against the SA-5, BB and Floyd (+AI) engaged the 23`s and 21`s coming south in our direction. If my memory is correct, we shot down 8+ aircraft while we were waiting for the HARM to hit the SA-5. With the SA-5 destroyed, we flew north, now with the strike flight 18nm close behind us. I called Novac and told him to wait at the border of the SA-5 envelope („36nm from steerpoint 4“).
BB engaged the second SA-5 while I destroyed two 23´s (23 against an aircraft using jammer has no chance of scoring any kill with SARH missiles).
While we were waiting for the HARM to hit the SA-5, Lumper started calling that 4x21 Foxtrot were chasing the strike flight (20nm?). I sent Floyd and the AI to engage then, since BB was winchester on C5s. 2 MIGs were destroyed, but Floyd got in dogfight in CAT3 with the other two MIGs. He called for help and we went to help him. Ordered the flight to turn on the jammers and shot down one MIG with my last C5 from about 13nm. Floyd disengaged and went north. I engaged the last MIG with BB. After two turns with the MIG, while BB was also trying to kill him, I gunned the MIG down.
With the whole flight heading north now, Floyd destroyed the SA-3 close to MIRIM AB to buy us some space.
At this time we were winchester of C5s but still had 5000-6000 pounds fuel. I informed Novac about our status and he sounded very surprised that we were winchester in C5s. :-)
He went north in CAT3 full of bombs and destroyed successfully 4x29 Sierra!!!!

BB, Floyd and I tried to destroy the SA-2/SA-3 at the target area, but our missiles failed. Floyd+AI set a CAP south-north outside of the SA-2 envelope. BB and I were trying to trigger the SA-3 against us, while the strike flight was ingressing. At this time, called our flight to start saving fuel for our return...
When the strike flight was about to leave the target area, our „Human AI“ Awacs, the beloved LUMPER, started calling multiple MIGs heading north.
After some seconds of confusion from my side, the SEAD flight kicked the burners, climbed, heading initially 270, then 180. The flight got as higher as A55+ and as fast as Mach 1.93. No MIG managed to get closer to us. We all landed (the AI also!!!) at home plate, after watching some MIG-23s shooting down the F-15s (what???). Without Lumper, we would not have been able to find a free corridor between all these MIGs.

In my opinion as flight lead, I loved it. A lot of decisions to be made, which were made sometimes in the heat of the battle, but with the help of BB and Floyd, it went quite well.
The mission itself was very challenging, with a lot of aircraft and showed (to me) that dozens of 23s/21s are not enough to stop Floyd and BB! Bring it on!!!!
I have to take my hat off to Novac, Griffin and Pinbeck by the perfect HI-LO-HI mission using all capabilities of the F-16 to open their way to the target. MIG-29s with R-77s while in CAT3 (a lot of bombs) in the middle of SAMs? What can stop you guys? Next time we will stay on the ground watching you!

Great night....great mission, Crowebar!

Cowboy flight.
#1 Novac
#2 Pinbeck
#3 Griffin
#4 AI
Loadout was 4 x c5 120's, 1 x wing tank and a mixture of BSU50 & Mk82's split across the flight.

As we had elected to move our standpoints north, our 1st concern from a strike point of view was the hold point short of the SA5 threat circle. At this point the mig 23's and mig 21's were cleared by the SEAD Escort flight (already covered in detail by Tiag)
I was indeed shocked by the call from Falcon1 that they were out of A2A weapons

But with the picture now clear of enemy aircraft...Except the small problem of the mig 29's. We pressed on. At this point the 2nd element of Cowboy Griffin and AI were around 7 miles trail. good for A2A.
With the help of lumper cowboy sorted the 2 groups of 29's. With 3 of the 29's being shot down on the 1st engagement. Unfortunately Pinbeck was hit by an R77.
The final mig29 was shot down by #1.

We were now clear to attack the target. But with an SA2 & SA3 still active we went low level.
The processor and reactor destroyed on the 1st pass.
The cooling towers proved a little more difficult to destroy with several passes needed to destroy all 4 with #3 getting 3 tower & #1, 1 tower.
During the attack both #1 & 3 reporting "spoof missile launch warnings" Nothing was seen by myself or evading action taken.
Having looked at the debrief txt it does indeed show launches....But did they really happen?

We then turned for home. At this point we got calls from Falcon that they were being spiked by mig23's etc.
Cowboy was in no position to help at that moment as we were still low level and some distance from the threat. In the end Falcon out-ran the Migs.

With the help of Lumper once again (our human AI ) we sorted the greatest threat which was the mig 23's. with #1 & 3 getting 2 kills each.
We then RTB'd along with our #4 AI for a great many beers in the bar which were bought by Pinbeck who had been picked up by the rescue chopper.

A VERY nice mission Crowebar...Very busy.....Made all the more difficult by Black's decision to change the route to the north.
Having had a look at the TE after the flight we put ourselves into the Lions den. But we pulled it off....Nice flying guys I enjoyed that a lot.

Mission name: on the brink

Mission Type: Deep Strike
Flight Callsign: Cowboy1
4 Ship Flight
Ac type: F-16C-52
Country: U.S.

1. Me - 1x wing tank, 3x bsu50, 4x slammer
2. Crowebar - 1x wing tank, 3x bsu50, 4x slammer
3. Medic - 1x center tank, 1x harm, 3x bsu50, 4x slammer
4. Ghostrider - 1x center tank, 4x mk84, 4x slammer

- Brief was to fly around the coast so that enemy were on our right side and if engaged and in trouble we could egress out of danger towards the sea, instead of getting caught up in a mig sandwich. Targets were assigned. Munitions were set. The asymetric loadout was noted and the engine feed switch was recommended.

* Lined up and took off as a 4-ship

Event Theron violated ATC protocol at 14:28:23
Event Medic violated ATC protocol at 14:28:23

Event Crowebar violated ATC protocol at 14:28:29
Event Ghostrider violated ATC protocol at 14:28:34

* Gradual climb until reaching the ac limits at 350kts (although ghostrider decided he wanted to fly 10k below and 4 miles infront of us).

* Received an instruction from SEAD escort to hold our position due to enemy air activity, but we carried on our flight path.

* The SEAD escort got into trouble and we helped out A-A.

Event DPRK MiG-23ML downed by Theron at 14:35:27
Event DPRK MiG-23ML downed by Medic at 14:35:58
Event DPRK MiG-21F downed by Medic at 14:38:31
Event DPRK MiG-23ML downed by Medic at 14:38:57

* we proceeded along our flight path, 250kts @ A22.

* The SEAD escort got into trouble and we helped out A-A. (the call was for a mig to their north, which we eventually worked out was our east)

Event DPRK MiG-23ML downed by Theron at 14:47:56

* Now much lighter and with less drag we proceeded to target area, 360 kts @ A29.

* Arrived at target site with 2x SA2, 1x SA3 and 2 mig29s still active over the target.

* We orbited off the West coast until the sa3 was taken out and then we engaged the mig29s who appeared to be capping over the target, within the sa2 threat circles. Crowebar was shot down by an R77.

Event SA2 launched at Crowebar 15:09:22
Event R-77M launched at Crowebar 15:11:25

Event Crowebar ejected at 15:12:19
Event R-77M launched at Theron 15:12:19
Event DPRK MiG-29S downed by Theron at 15:13:09
Event SA2 launched at Ghostrider 15:13:18
Event DPRK MiG-29S downed by Theron at 15:16:28

* We took out the northern most SA2 and engaged in a north -> south direction.

Event DPRK Fan Song B destroyed by Medic at 15:19:22
Event DPRK Processor destroyed by Theron at 15:23:29
Event DPRK Cooling Tower destroyed by Ghostrider at 15:25:32
Event DPRK Cooling Tower destroyed by Ghostrider at 15:25:33

Event SA7 launched at Medic 15:30:08

* Ghostrider called low on fuel and RTBd alone

Event Ghostrider landed at 15:47:19

* We RTBd the same route that we ingressed being completely winchester and aiming to avoid any late enemy surge.

Event Theron landed at 16:03:06
Event Medic landed at 16:03:06

- We got a mission fail because the processor was damaged and not destroyed, it appears that from our direction of attack the reactor was getting in the way of our bombs, preventing them from hitting the processor.

*perfect formation T/O & landing

yeah crowebar, i did say in another thread elsewhere, it was a really well designed mission, good use of enemy units and a fair and balanced mission.
