SUBJECT: Award of Unit Citation
TO: Cpt. Stingray, Flight 2nd in command, Blue Flight, 185th, United States Airforce
You are awarded a Unit Citation for heroic achievement on 7 March 2004 as set forth in
the following:
CITATION:
Captain Stingray, Flight 2nd in command, Blue Flight, 185th, United States Airforce.
For heroic achievement in action against the enemy on 22 February 2004, approximately
1045 (local time) in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
During the tactical engagement known as ‘C&C Strike’ Captain Stingray was part of a
four ship of F16s led by Col. Tracer. During that tactical engagement the Element Lead of
that flight, Major Ballistic, found himself in a defensive position during a dogfight with
several MiG23s. One of the enemy pilots had positioned himself behind Major Ballistic.
Fully understanding the importance of his assignment, Major Ballistic was reluctant to
jettison his A-G stores. Due to the intervention of Captain Stingray which showed
initiative that is to be commended, the MiG23 was forced to break off the pursuit. As a
result Major Ballistic was in a position to shoot down the MiG23 and to continue to
execute his assignment successfully by delivering his payload to the target site. This
aided measurably in the destruction of the 2nd Artillery Corps Base, located northeast of
Hwasun, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The destruction of the 2nd Artillery Corps
Base denied the enemy the usage of the Command and Communication facilities located
there, thus diminishing the enemy’s ability to sustain combat operations in the area
around Hwasun.
Captain Stingray’s professionalism and devotion to duty were in keeping of the traditions
of the 185th VFS. The combat distinguishing device is authorized.

The fact that you did a 180 turn back to help me before the Migs had showed up was excellent forethought and tactical awareness, as you realised I was in a vulnerable position on my own with a full AG load out required for the mission. You managed to get the Mig off my six in the nick of time using a slammer at long range.
