There seems to be a slight lapse or even perhaps a lack of proper direction in regard to MIA's, both on the role of FL/2IC's and the MIA's themselves. MIA's are taken seriously by the squadron, the reason being that they have the potential to make life difficult for the pilots waiting to see who will turn up, obviously if no LOA is recieved then the FL will naturally feel somewhat impelled to wait a bit longer, just in case the MIA is having a little difficulty but will appear online any time soon, depending on who's call it is this can lead to anything up to 15 minutes wait, not really fair on the pilots waiting to fly, I'm sure you will agree. Obviously there will be times when the PC goes down or something occurs that absoloutely prevents either an LOA or a quick explanation to the FL and when that does happen all mitigation is extended to the MIA onc the facts become known, but to be fair, anyone who is MIA for whatever reason, ought, out of common courtesy, to let his/her flight lead and 2ic know either the reason, or if that is not possible (e.g. due to personal reasons) at least to offer a short apology, as soon as reasonably possible. This can help enormously in assesing the pilots true status, which is very important when you consider that the squadron rule is 3 MIA's and you are considered for dismissal!
Note: The responsibility for such an explanation/apology, lies firmly with the pilot who is MIA, it is not the responsibility, or the requirement of the FL/2IC's to go chasing up MIA's for the answers to their absence!!
