Situation In preparation for an eventual assault on Mostaganem, defences near Chlef and Frenda need to be neutralised.

Mission Attack defenses around Frenda. Our previous mission destroyed the Flap Lid of an SA-10 at Frenda. The remains of this battalion need to be destroyed, and any other targets of opportunity in the area.

There remains a risk of Su30-MKA scrambling from Chlef, so F-15s are tasked with keeping them at bay.

Cobra12: "Redfox" AA=0 AG=8 RTB

Target was SA-8. Total of 6x SA-8 destroyed plus numerous other units using GBU-54, all static. No AA threats, numerous callouts from AWACS were mostly no factor or slow movers down low. RTB was uneventful with an OHB.

Using the briefing page we headed to a PPT67 carrying GBU-54s, the aim being to S&D SA-8s if we could or any other enemy units in the area. I found moving targets, which then stopped. I sent a markpoint to the flight and we engaged columns. I directed the element to columns north of the markpoint while my element attacked the highlighted ones. No2 had issues finding targets to use his final bomb on while 1, 3 and 4 set up a CAP from our SP4 to the NE.

After No2 ditched his final bomb we RTB's with an overhead break. No3 broke his aircraft on landing and ended up stuck in the middle of the runway after using the tail hook to stop. Luckily Viper 2, who were landing behind us, didn't have an issue with this for their landings.

Managed to ignore Mig29 contacts to the north on approach, no factor for the entire mission. Encountered and ignored some helicopters en route.

Spotted the SA-10 battalion early and sorted targets between the three of us. Some confusion in the sorting resulted in some double-taps but these were not going to jeopardise the mission success.

Need to brush up on my markpoint assignment, and we all need to be clearer when calling out targets for sorting.

We had some bombs to spare to clean-up a bit more of Jackal 5's target area.

There was a lone Mig29 40nm to the east of the SA-10 location but it appeared to be circling down at 3-4,000 feet and was no factor, and too far to be worth engaging.

No activity noticed from CHLEF.

SA-10 active north of CHLEF and another one further ESE from our target.

Got some good formation practise on the way home for a tidy OHB.
