The enemy has taken to launching long range strategic bombing from the NE. You may have seen some bombers last time out.

Intel has identified that one bomber group is located at Samjiyon-Up AB on the Chinese border. Your task is to take out the two runways.

SAM threats are high along the route and at the target, with AAA to SA-10's on static duty. We have no intel on mobile SAM assets but that doesn't mean that they are not there.

SU-27 and MiG-29S made themselves present last time out and you should expect them to be around again. Remember that they are R-77 carriers and the high risk that represents.

For mission success both runways must be put out of action and no losses to radar SAMs or aircraft must be suffered BEFORE the runway attack.

Partial success will be if we lose one of the OCA flight before the attack and that only one runway is put out of action.

It will be deemed a mission failure if the OCA flight is lost before the runway attack is made.

This is going to be busy. Be ready.

Flight Role: Sead Escort
Gamble 11: Reds AA=1 AG=0
Gamble 12: Sabre AA=0 AG=0
Gamble 13: Noodle AA=3 AG=0

Took off , Sabre had a tech.
Spotted some air targets to the East , engaged and took them down. Headed West back to the track and had a Mud 6 on the scope . Tried to warn Hawkeye flight but it was too late .

Thoughts; SA6 is flipping deadly !

Flight Role: OCA STRIKE
Hawkeye11: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Hawkeye12: "Vosene" AA=0 AG=0 EJT

Oh Dear. That did not go well.

We took off after a slight delay while Vosene got his TIR working, after which we took off in formation and flew at around 10 miles behind Gamble.

As we approached the safe corridor between the SA-2 and SA-3 I saw Gamble turn off to the east. I didn't know why until I asked.

I route my flight to a heading of 10°, away from the fight and off the west of the next SA-2, as per the pre-flight discussion.

Unfortunately we flew right over a sneaky SA-6 which took me down first. Vosene asked Gamble to report where the unit was so that he could head away from it. Unfortunately, as he didn't get an answer he flew straight back towards it and was shot down.

Game over.

Learning points for me;
a) don't go ahead of your escort, that safe area may not be.
b) when planning a SEAD mission make sure you pick a plane that can carry an HTS.
