Posted - 05 Jul 2018 : 15:00:43 Russia has invaded Finland. NATO forces must repulse the attack before it advances into Norway and Sweden.
Our attacks against tank battalions close to the city of Balgda were less successful than expected, so we will re-attack today.
AWACS support is available.
The picture shows the current situation. It seems the Russian air force concentrates multiple flights in one package, so be careful when making contact.

We planned to stay 30nm from target and orbit until Stud would have finished their attack runs. The incoming groups from the north east let us regroup and communicate our availibility to Stud flight. The engagement draw us far to the north east towards the MiG base and we turned cold to go for a direct attack run on the main target. The cloud cover didn't allow the use of the TGP, so we had to drop by radar. Stud was winchester that time and we turned to cover them on the way back to base.

Ingressed as fragged, in box formation, with lead element going AG on the target column. However, Element picked up a Mig29S group inbound from the southeast and 30 miles off lead's nose, so he called off the attack, just after #2 got 2 bombs off. These had the desired effect on the column, taking out 4 tanks. Element pressed on the incoming migs and got both, but #3 broke MAR in the engagement and took one up the pipe. At this point, Viper had committed on a gorilla group coming in from the East, so Stud turned to support and engaged multiple targets on Viper's 6. During this engagement, #2 was forced defensive and broke his remaining 2 bombs. But the immediate area was cleared and Stud pressed onto their target for a short time. #1 got 4 bombs off in 1 pass, killing 8 vehicles, followed up by #4, who dropped 1 bomb to finish off the column, then expended his remaining bombs on alternate targets in the kill box. Following this, another gorilla came up from the southeast, so we engaged those, then being Bingo weapons, we scrammed home, with #2 providing cover with his remaining 2 slammers.
Overall a mission success, but lessons learnt, particularly for #1 on pre-mission planning and comms during the flight.
