Posted - 09 Oct 2017 : 17:00:42 After the surprise incursion by Syria into Lebanon that occurred during our Familiarization flight we have quickly turned our aircraft around and are ready to take the fight to the Syrians.
Campaign Overview and ROEs
Several missions from the 113rd Attack Squadron, flying the AH-64D, had to be aborted due to the massive air defense assets close to the city Sur (BE 297,31). The 107th squadron, stationed at Hatzerim, is ordered to attack multiple SA-8.
The first picture shows the general situation and the flight paths.
The second picture shows the tactical situation and HQ battalions with several SA-8 units. The plan is to make good use of the standoff capability of the Delilah missile by firing en route to waypoint 3, activate the auto pilot in AUTO waypoint mode and fly via waypoint 4 and 5 to guide the missile. Return to waypoint 3 to position for the second missile shot.
Package 7726
Python4 and Snake4 are 4-ship AI flights. Mission success is given for one SA-8 destroyed per human pilot in total (6 human pilots == 6 SA-8 to be destroyed by both flights), PS is given for one SA-8 destroyed per 2 human pilots.
Stud4 is a 4-ship TARCAP flight. Mission success is given for no losses to Python and Snake by A2A, PS is given for 50% loss max.
All flights are from the 107th squadron, taking off from Hatzerim.
IDM will be from Stud4. Python41 is package commander.

Flight paths and weapons are free (ROE prohibit the use of JSOWs, SDBs and Spice1000/P weapons in the campaign).
The weather is poor at home plate and fair at the target with a cloud base at 30k MSL.
Good Hunting

MS (Based on total number of SA-8 destroyed by package).
Very poor results on our engagement using Delilahs for moving targets.
Good points: - comms - deconfliction - good setup for engaging with Delilahs - good flying from the element, considering the challenges
Not so good points: - using Delilahs for moving targets - finding moving SA8s from afar is impossible - formation broke down after the first pass - landing could have been better
As a conclusion, I think we need to discover better tactics for doing AI missions in Israel

Extremely busy, moving targets, and the met guys got it wrong too. Apart from that, we did as best as we could to find the SA8 and other SAM threats in the area, and managed to destroy a total of 14 SA-8, 6 SA-13, and a slew of other targets too.
Deconfliction and COMM between the 2 human flights was very good (IMO). Air picture was impossibly busy, but most picture calls were to the north of the bullseye so for the most part we were unhindered in this regard.
Good first campaign mission. |
