Posted - 03 May 2018 : 14:40:52 Russia has invaded Finland. NATO forces must repulse the attack before it advances into Norway and Sweden.
After several successful OCA strikes, Russia has only 4 of 13 active airfields left, plus one carrier. That carrier was our target of choice, but it is dedicated to the Finnish Air Force, once their base at IVALO with the F/A-18C becomes operational again.
SU-25 started to attack allied air fields, and the 185th squadron, flying the F-16CM-52 out of Gallivare, is ordered to attack Rotimojoki Highway Strip. One SU-25 unit (14th Attack Squadron) and one SU-27 unit (105th Fighter squadron) are stationed there.
AWACS support is available.
The picture shows the route to our taget. HQ plotted a route with 60nm distance to the carrier, but there are still several SAMs to take care of.
The 14th Attack squadron:
The 105th Fighter squadron:
Package 1286
Serpent1 is a 4-ship OCA flight. Mission success is given for destroying 2 of 3 main runway sections, PS is given for one destroyed main runway section.
Snake1 is a 4-ship Escort flight. Mission success is given for no losses to Serpent1 by A2A, PS is given for 50% loss max.
Shark1 is a 4-ship SEAD flight. Mission success is given for no losses to Serpent1 and Snake1 by radar SAM, PS is given for 50% loss max.
All flights are from the 185th squadron, flying the F-16CM-52, taking off from Gallivare.

PS
Plan - Ingress with a screen from Escort to our South. SEAD to destroy SA-10 Flaplid then Strike to launch 2x JASSM each at runway (2 per section) from 50nm. Stay within 70nm until weapon TOF is reached (Approximately 6 minutes).
Execution - Right from take-off Escort were already engaged with multiple Su-27 and Su-33 from the South. Strike flew North of them and stayed out of the fight. Called on to support once but SEAD already had it covered so we stayed out of the flight.
On the second round of engagements we turned to support Escort as Snake11 was calling for a delouse. Before we could sort he was shot down. We turned back away but, in the melee, #2 was hit by an R-77 from an Su-27 at low level that we hadn't detected either on radar or RWR and unfortunately the warning from SEAD came too late. #2 didn't get any missile warning on the RWR either.
After the engagements were completed, Serpent1 made the decision to push on and Shark1 destroyed the SA-10. Serpent1 then successfully hit 1x runway section with 2x JASSM and destroyed it, knocking the runway out of service.
Uneventful egress and landing, although we did have to dance around several AAA sites.
It is recommended that only one JASSM be used per runway section as this has been enough to destroy a section in all previous runway strikes using this weapon.

MS Took off and as we referenced steer 2, we picked up enemy contacts from a south-easterly direction. Snake1 called us to go cold, which we did. Snake1 then engaged the incoming bandits. After putting some distance between our flight and Snake1 we turned hot again. #1 called for weapons free as it seemed that the bandits were all around. #3 managed to fire at least one missile but was expiriencing heavy lag and had to abort. By that time Shark1 had become separated from the rest of the package and therefore turned east so as to provide some support to Snake1. By this time Snake1 was down to one AC and RTBd. Serpent1 requested that Shark1 attempt to take out the SA10s so as to complete the objectives of the mission. Between steer 3 and 4 we picked up triple A's. We were flying at Fl24 at that time and #1 was hit by some triple A. #1 could still fly the Jet but had lost HUD and RMFD functions. #1 called #2 to take out the two primary targets as #1 was having trouble in picking up the SA10 emitters on the HAD. #1 was able to pick up one of the southernmost SA10s and shot both Harms at it but whilst turning cold, was shot down by an SA10 missile. #2 went on to join up with Serpent1 who was also down to one AC

PS
Upon takeoff, even before #3 finishing the take off, the first element had 29 nails. We immediately switched to tactical, picked up bandits close to Shark and called them called, although by this time.
We engaged that first group, and since that moment we were in a continuous engagement, with group after group, coming in from different directions.
After several engagements, we were down to a 2ship, as #3 was Winchester and RTB. We had a flight of Su27s mixed with friendlies, I declared one, got a friendly and took the decision to disengage and leave the friendly AI to it.
It proved to be a bad call, which cost us the first element, as the 27s finished up the friendly AIs and then went for us and shot Snake1 down.
As far as Snake flight goes, we didn't get the chance to form-up or get setup properly and this meant that for the entire mission we engaged as 3 single ships, with not enough mutual support.
