Posted - 04 Sep 2010 : 20:00:36 What a great air show today. What made the day was the good weather, high cloud base. The red arrows opened with a full good weather display, very impressive.
They were followed by a Bearcat, a Seafury and then that old favourite the P51 Mustang beating up the airfield.
The F16 was on next, a very impressive good weather display. Best F16 display I have seen in a couple of years.
Followed by the 'Memphis Belle' B17, just ajbeautiful aircraft.
Battle of Britain memorial flight gave their standard display, alays nice to watch.
Then we had 4 Hurricanes take off in pairs, and displayed with an ME109. That was nice.
Gloster Gladiator on next (time to nip for a coffee!)
Then the Eurofighter 'Typhoon' Guys this was better than the F16. I reckon this was the best Typhoon display I have seen. He didn't half through it around the sky. Once again a perfect sky for him.
I picked the next hour to go into the flight simulator show. It was an ok show, smaller than I expected. I was in and out in about 40 minutes. The best bit was the RCS Simulations stand. That guy was so enthusiastic towards everyone, and his setup was to be dreamed of. His PC was £4000, He had 3 screens joined, the box was £300 to do this. His flight seat was £1500 had hydraulic movement. Trackir 5 setup as well. He had FSX setup with a Spitfire flight. Just had to have a go. Came away hoping for a lottery win to buy all his kit! There is a big jump between my TrackIR 4 and his TrackIR 5 though. I think I am going to make the leap. Anyone want to buy TrackIR 4 half price? As well as all the setup, like I said, the RCS Simulations guy was so genuinly nice, and enthusiastic.
Back outside the next item on was a spectacular 16 Spitfire display. They took off in a simulated squadron scrammble - 16 Spitfires in 4 abreat elements 3 or 4 second gaps. very impressive. They then came over the airfield in a 16 ship formation, flights of 4 in a diamond of 16. Brilliant. We rhen had flights of 4 doing a few passes, before they split into groups, a 6, a 5 and a 5 in trail. These formations flew with two groups flying opposing circles consisting of a low level pass across the crowd front, pull up into a climb, loop round sideways and sweep back in. The 3rd group was sweeping across the front, pull around and back again.
The overall effect was that the sky was full of 16 Spitfires in tail chases, passing your front at low level, and high in the sky at each end. The overall effect was that you felt you were watching a big ariel dog fight. Absolutely outstanding/brilliant. Breathtaking.
The finally was the Patrouille de France, who, presented with a perfect sky, were outstanding. I would say better than the red arrows.
Guys I had an awesome day. But it nearly never happened. I queued on the M11 motorway for 2 hours, no exageration, 2 hours. We got into the last carpark and I estimated there was only room for another 50 ish cars when we parked. Sure enough, not long after we entered they anounced that all the car parks were full. They were still queued up on the motorway and other roads. I would have been gutted to queue for 2 hours then be told they were full!!!

Posted - 05 Sep 2010 : 19:21:01 And with a cheap pair of Bino's you would have seen 16 Spitfires together!!! LOL.
My trackIR 4 I need to have the blinds shut, the room light off, and just a small desk light to illuminate my desk only, minimum escape of light upwards. Otherwise head turning is a little juddery at times, it picks up back ground light. Sometimes even gets stuck looking in one direction. But with blackout conditions it works fine.
However, at the flight sim show, I had a go on Bob's rig with TrackIR 5, in a well lit show room. No problems at all, very smooth.

Posted - 05 Sep 2010 : 18:32:13 Yeah, Bob is a helpful guy a few of us met him at the Bristol flight sim show a few years ago.
I'd be interested to find out what impressed you about the TIR 5 compared to TIR 4. I have a TIR 3 pro and was considering upgrading.
Nice write up of the show Crowebar. Even though I'm not a big fan of the WW2 stuff I would have liked to have seen 12 spitfires together!

The flight sim guy who was so genuine and helpfull was Bob, the owner of RC Simulations. Here's his website.

Agree with Grffin about the Reds, only the Italians are better.
