Posted - 04 Nov 2009 : 12:59:11 The multi player campaign, hosted by Floyd, is turning out to be a real test for those involved and last night (3rd Nov 09) was no exception. Six 185th pilots turned out for this and successfully destroyed nearly twenty aircraft and over fifteen ground targets in what was a very busy mission. On top of that we all got back safely...just!
It was agreed that the mission was really satisfying, particularly when facing so many SAM and AAA threats, as well as numerous airborne IR threats. We had to run for home when we ran out of weapons!!
The campaign continues next Tuesday and I'm looking forward to it. Check the ATO and grab a seat! You won't be sorry.

Posted - 15 Nov 2009 : 11:59:27 Hey Guys
Sometime ago I suggested to run a FoF on Sunday nights (March this year). I remember sending it to some of you. I gave the name "Air Pistols". But the idea did not take-off. FYI, just sent again for the new guys. I am a huge fan of such events (as MP campaigns such yours guys), because it is not just the target destruction that counts, but RTB and other tactical/strategical choices are also very important. I have flown in such events in the past outside the squad and it is the most enjoyable way of flying military aircraft, i.e. against human pilots in a long campaign. Besides TE/missions preparation tasks would be optimized because the whole preparation is shared between some members (me + ~4 members), which minimizes the workload for the everyone at the end. Problems like running out of TEs should not happen in this case. Ok, it will be probably the same guys who normally write the TEs at the moment, but each one will have less things to care: No one will have to care if the ground units are there in order to achieve a TE success or if the timing between enemy and friendly flights is ok...etc...very time consuming tasks. It will be a war and each team member has a function. At the moment I suggested a Strategic Commander and Mission Commander but task delegation can be expanded as desired. For example, we could add a Briefing/Intelligence Officer, which would be responsible to gather info on the ORBATs and recent enemy operations, etc.
It seems Floyd's server runs quite ok, so we could use it in the FoF. If people are interested, we could start with a not so complicated FoF (less mods) and see how it works. At the moment we have on Sunday nights between 12-15 pilots, so two teams of 6-7+ AWACS would fit.
BTW, see you tonight.

Posted - 15 Nov 2009 : 09:53:05 The only problem i see is to get the number of F-16 planes from the campaign engine at exactly the takeoff time (say, within 10 minutes). The ATO is planning ahead for some hours and you can only fly the planes that make it back from the previous mission - it's just so fluid and dynamic. The higher the number you need for your package/flights, the harder it gets to "reserve" the planes. Would become easier if we fly other types as well, like F15, F4 etc. |

Posted - 14 Nov 2009 : 21:33:21 Posted by Floyd. There is always a possibility that the campaign ATO will cancel a flight, that your base gets bombed while you wait for taxi/takeoff or that the outcome of AI flights changes the conditions from the start on.
I take this point on-board Floyd. Ive just done a test and on my 1st attempt the flight was canceled due to the runway being destroyed.
On tests 2~5 flight it was OK using same campaign save. If you save it 20 mins before the flight it looks pretty safe. (Would we need a ramp start if the whole squadron was flying?)
Posted by Floyd. Some years ago I've flown a campaign mission where 4 bandits with R-77 intercepted our flight. We, 4 pilots, re-flew the mission several times and every one was different. Sometimes the bandits were shot down by our escort, other flights we called came for help or the bandits attacked other flights and expended missiles and rtb'ed.
Possibly a misunderstanding here.
I wasn't thinking of the normal Sunday split flight here. ie blue, green, and black flying the same Te/campaign as separate groups.
I was thinking, maybe the whole squadron, flying a 12 ~ 24 campaign mission as a package. As in the large squadron TE's we sometimes fly.
Any tech or writing problems with that idea? As Ive said, you don't need to write in the enemy.
I'm not saying we should fly a campaign every Sunday....Just once in a while!
Just my ideas guys. Trying to keep interest going.
Any comments welcome.

Posted - 05 Nov 2009 : 23:07:35 My first flight in campaign on Tuesday and I really enjoyed it. Different type of challenge and mindset. Unfortunately I cant fly the next mission, working that night. Would be great if more pilots flew in campaign so join up and fly.
Wonders that as well Novac, if it would be possible for Sunday night, certainly be different.
Well enjoy next one guys and I will be back when I can.

Posted - 05 Nov 2009 : 19:02:41 Yep,
I really enjoyed that flight EVEN the AI escort got home safely guys
Just wondering....What sort of problems would we encounter if we tried to arrange a 16+ ship campaign mission for a Sunday night?
We had a six ship without any problems with connection etc.
I know someone would have to write, or should I say hijack a flight for 16+ from the campaign ATO. But they wouldn't need to worry about placing the enemy into the battle. And know one could be blamed for a "dodgy" TE!
It would certainly keep Lumper on his toes flying AWACS
Any reason why we couldn't fly campaign on a Sunday?
