185th Expansion
Gentlemen Command would like to inform you that we notice a prosperous future and an increased interest for our squadron. For the moment we receive an average of 2-3 new recruits every week and we are now fully booked under the current set up, with 4 X 6 seats available and all flights now overbooked to 7 (with Red having 8) plus 2+1 command pilots. We have 2 qualified pilots awaiting allocation and another 4 recruits likely to pass assessment in the next 2 weeks or so.
Our intention is to expand and overbook up to 10 human pilots in each flight, expanding the squadron from its current maximum of 26 to 42 pilots. The expansion will take effect from the 1/11 2006, therefore we need, as Lunatic has already asked for, the TE creators to edit their submitted TEs to allow for 8 human pilots with the condition that the mission still should be achievable with 6 human pilots. The TE creation guide will be updated to reflect this change. The CPL will be updated to provide for teams of 9 (8 pilots + 1 human AWACS) with the flight adjustment calculation for the team score to be updated accordingly. This will be great news as it will allow further flexibility in team tactics and some greater variety in the mission designs. Tomb, as our Tech officer has run a series of tests with 8 online pilots and has concluded that this will be achievable provided (a) there is a host available in each flight with at least an 8MB connection (which in the UK at least means 400K consistently achievable Upload speed in the real world) and (b) all clients stick to a strict regime of connecting at 128 upload/256 download, with all clients ensuring they choose identical settings.
Bandwidth?
We need to find out what bandwidth our pilots have, So each flight than can handle a flight of 8 human pilots
Can we please ask the Flight Leaders to gather the upload and download speeds for everyone in their Flight in order to determine how many high bandwidth connections we have across the Sqn.
Can we at the same time, ask all pilots in 185th to help your flightleaders to gather this information ASAP please as we aim to go 8 pilots teams on the 1/11 2006.

i would be suprised if those on BTinternet 8 meg connection can not run an 8 player TE
its what i have, and i have tested it to 13 players so far, it was smooth. this is using TE's from the TE libary. i suspect the only time bandwidth requirement will shoot up for 8 players are in a campaign or the TE creation rules allowable AI player limits are changed upward
i think black flight have 4 pilots that could run 8 player TEs, PROVIDED that a good enough machine is attached to that connection
for green we had only one (me) until recently we have tested a further player (homer) and it was smooth, we will test a third player (sabre) after his week of instability is over.
obviuosly each flight will need to run an 8 player test on each pilot that can potentially host 8 players to test, A, they have the bandwidth and B, they have the machine good enough.
be aware if you have a BT home hub with the internet phone, someone uses the internet phone, bandwidth goes down. most internetting is done with TCP, internet phone is UDP
