Operation Attorney 3

Sokcho is now back under ROK control and the DPRK reinforcement coming from the north on the coast have been handled. At least for now.

Our main concern now is that Russia has sent tankers to support the DPRK, so far these tankers were not escorted, but Russia's carrier has now entered DPRK waters and is sailing SW from Vladivostok (currently 170NM NE of the Wonsan bay).
Russia has not made any statement regarding its involvement in this skirmish, but we are confident Russian Su-33s from the Kuznetsov will be around.

Our objective is to send a strong message to Russia by destroying any tankers in the Wonsan Bay Area. Satellite photos show no other ship than the tankers, no naval escort.

Package 2288
WEASEL1 - TASMO - 4x F-16C-52
GAMBLE3 - Escort - 4x F-16C-52
HAWKEYE6 - SEAD - 4x F-16C-52 (optional)

Objective: Destroy any tanker or merchant ship in the Wonsan Bay.

Weather is fair at the moment, but expected to get worse through the night.

Intel confirms Mig-23 QRA from Wonsan AB, Mig-29 and Mig-21 currently on BARCAPs. 3 flights have been reported to have taken off from the Kuznetsov so far.

SA-4s, SA-6s are still operating on the coast, but with no FCR.
SA-5 North of Wonsan and other mobile SAMs around the bay.
Strong mobile and static SAM presence (possibly Russian) around Sinp'o and Hamhung.
Friendly BARCAPs will be operating SW of Sokcho.

MS for 2 ships sunk (if full TASMO flight) with 0 loss.
MS for 1 ships sunk (if full TASMO flight) with 1 loss

MF - no ships sunk

Mango had several tech issues and was not able to takeoff.

On ingress, a hostile 4-ship was detected at 55nm to our north. Pegasus and Gekko turned hot to investigate and got VID on Su-25s at 35nm range. Targets were ignored.

At our STPT3, AWACS was reporting 3 groups arrayed E-W across the killbox. Pegasus and Gekko turned to our CAP axis of NW while Fisty in 15nm trail looked north. The group Fisty picked up to the north were hot on our position so Pegasus and Gekko turned to engage them. Group was a 4-ship Mig-29As and they began a bracket maneuver in elements.

Targets were sorted for Pegasus to take the right element and Gekko the left element, while WEASEL1 was ordered to hold position. Pegasus was fired on by the Gekko's element and fired a slammer the right element at just outside R_TR, then turned cold. This target turned cold and evaded. Gekko had fired on his element (one kill) and also turned cold.

Fisty was well positioned to support and fired on both of Gekko's element to kill the remaining Mig-29 of that element. Fisty now turned cold as Pegasus and Gekko turned hot once more, sanitising the airspace to the north.

A couple of Su-33s had now appeared and were just behind the remaining Mig-29A element. Before Pegasus could sanitise and pick up the contacts he was defensive to Mig-29A and turned cold again. Gekko got off a shot on one of the Mig-29As and turned cold (probably unaware that an R-77 was inbound from one of the Su-33s).

Gekko splashed his Mig-29A. Fisty was now hot and fired on both the Mig-29As getting hits on both, scoring one kill as the other was credited to Gekko. The Su-33s had turned cold by this point.

GAMBLE3 now needed to regroup at STPT3 and requested WEASEL1 to continue approach to STPT3 both to help potentially delouse GAMBLE3 as well as position for their own attacks as GAMBLE3 was getting low on weapons and fuel.

Back at STPT3, GAMBLE3 and WEASEL1 were now co-located. Pegasus and Gekko turned to pickup and engage Su-33 2-ship to the north while Fisty resumed 15nm trail. WEASEL1 were heading to target area where a pair of Mig-23s were lurking.

Pegasus and Gekko engaged one Su-33 each and splashed both, evading a couple of R-77s after turning cold. Fisty followed in and had visual confirmation of both Su-33 splashes, although he fired on one just before it was hit by Gekko's missile.

Pegasus and Gekko now took over hot leg again heading towards target area and picked up a 2-ship of Mig-23s. Both fired at the same target destroying it. Gekko followed up and destroyed the 2nd Mig-23. Fisty had turned hot and confirmed the kills.

Gekko was bingo fuel and had just one slammer. He tried contacting the tanker without luck so was RTB.

Later a couple of Mig-23s scrambled from Wonsan and were taken out by WEASEL1-1 with help from Fisty.

There was an IL-76, and an A-50 around but these were ignored due to lack of weapons and being out of range respectively. Fisty had an SA-10 to evade when getting too far north, and a few SA-5s were fired at Pegasus. Long Track and Snow Drift radars were also detected.

It was a very busy mission for a 3-ship escort, but enemy fighters were kept at a safe distance and away from WEASEL1. Some targets were double-tapped but this was probably for the best as a leaker or two could have caused a lot of damage.

We were probably lucky not to have any package losses to enemy action as the primary targets were further north than expected, and either under, or very close to SAM coverage.
