Operation Attorney

During the night the DPRK has managed to retake Sokcho as we were expecting. A bridgehead is being reinforced by ground troops coming from the coast and heading south. The surprise attack has left the ROK disorganized, and they are asking once again for the USAF to keep the eastern DMZ under control and prevent DPRK troops to reinforce Sokcho.

At this point, we're still unsure of what the DPRK's intentions are, but several groups of Su-25 have been spotted close to the DMZ. There could be an imminent strike.

Package 2201
VIPER7- AI - 4x F-16C-52
MUSTANG7 - SEAD - 4x F-16C-52
CAJUN6 - Escort- 4x F-16C-52

Objective: Engage ground troops inside the killbox.

Weather has cleared up since last mission.
Intel confirms Mig-23 QRA from Wonsan AB, Mig-29 and Mig-31 currently on BARCAPs.
SA-4s, SA-6s as well as static SAMs and AAA.
Friendly BARCAPs will be operating SW of Sokcho.

PS

Took off and headed off the boresight the Mavs before making our way to the target area. No 2 had issues and couldn't boresight so decided to go "old school".

We had to hold a couple of times while the escorts cleared the skies and SAMs for us, on one occasion turning south asd away as MiG31s came in.

Once cleared in we found targets to the south. I fired all six Mavs but launched them incorrectly and they all missed. No 2 couldn't effect any launches and No 4 had a CTD before he had a chance. Only No 3 was effective, getting kills with four of his six Mavs.

The remaining fuel was getting low for the package so we came off and RTB'd with straight in approach.

Lesson learned:

1. Refresh Maveric firing techniques, particularly in 4.35
2. Refresh boresighting methods.
3. Focus on station keeping and discipline in the attack circuit.

ESCORT
Cajun61: Pegasus AA=1 AG=2 RTB
Cajun62: Gekko AA=3 AG=0 RTB
Cajun63: Reds AA=1 AG=0 RTB

After Reds had some tech issues, we got away just on time, although Reds would remain off data link for the mission.

Several enemy groups were detected NNW of track on ingress to the mission area. Rather than wait for visual ID these were engaged. The first group was a pair Su25s which were hit by #1 and #2 but were killed by Patriots and F-4s.

A second group of Mig-29As were detected further out so MUSTANG was advised to hold as CAJUN regrouped and investigated.

The Mig-29s had just survived a furball with the F-4s and were widely split. Reds split to engage one of them while at the same time a couple of Mig-23s were detected scrambling to intercept us. Pegasus was heads down searching for the assigned SA-4, and turned cold when engaged by the Mig-23s. Gekko in 2.5nm trail was well positioned to engage, and splash both Mig-23s at the same time. Meanwhile Reds had splashed the single Mig-29 and rejoined.

Pegasus now returned to heads down to engage the SA-4 while Gekko and Reds skirted the SA-4 threat circle. Both Long Track and Pat Hand were destroyed by Pegasus and a 3-ship CAP was set along the NW axis of the kill box.

A couple of Mig-31s appeared from the north and took a long range shot at Gekko who turned cold to evade. Pegasus was now on the hot leg (15nm trail on Gekko) and turned to engage the Mig-31s. Pegasus fired on and destroyed one and turned cold, while Gekko and Reds were now turning hot as a 2-ship. Gekko and Reds both fired on the remaining Mig-31 scoring hits, with Gekko getting first hit and the kill credit.

Gekko and Reds were now Bingo and RTB. Pegasus remained for a few more legs of the CAP with no further action required. Pegasus RTB behind VIPER.

Good mission with great coordination and target sorting within the flight and package.

Seems to be a graphical bug with regards the intensity of aircraft taxi lights, so probably best to leave those off until actually taxiing.
