Posted - 05 May 2017 : 15:35:21 Intel reports that the DPRK has moved the air defences from the peninsula south west to P'Yonyang to the east. We will exploit this operational flaw and attack the industrial complex at Namp'o.

The picture shows the general situation and the flight paths.
Although HQ has no knowledge of any SAM sites, we will launch a SEAD flight. At least 2 planes should carry HARMS.
Plan your flights carefully and use good comms to synchronize your attacks.
Package 17068
Preconditions: MS per pilot is RTB and a parked jet, PS is given for RTB w/o proper parking the jet (crash on landing ...), MF otherwise (airframe lost/destroyed for any reason).
Weasel1 is a 4-ship Deep Strike flight. MS is given for following targets destroyed (top 4 each in recon screen): Namp'o Chemical Plant: Main PLant, Processor, Office, Processing Tanks Namp'o Electronics Plant: Processor, 3x Factory PS is given for destroying two of the targets above at each plant.
Cobra1 is the 4-ship Escort flight. MS is given for no losses to Weasel by A2A, PS is given for one loss max.
Avenger1 is a 4-ship SEAD flight. MS is given for at least 50% hit of any fired munition, PS is given for at least 25%.
Weasel and Avenger are from the 911th squadron, taking off from Chongju, Cobra is from the 912th squadron, taking off from Yeonchon.
IDA will be from Cobra1. Weasel11 is package commander.

We were already 2 minutes late at takeoff, but that was no problem as the Escort had to handle a tech problem, so we loitered and let Cobra take the lead.
The further ingress was uneventful because we've turned cold whenever bandits were engaged by the other flights. We turned to engage our target with the enemy AWACS at 12 o'clock. At 15 miles he turned to escape. With our Escort way behind, #2 was ordered to fire two slammer and the enemy was shot down.
We dropped our bombs and the plant was completely destroyed. Uneventful RTB. |

We were delayed departure due to Mango's Tech, but once we got airborne we were able to catch up to the Carat and also requested Weasel to loiter so we could pass and clear the road for them. On approach to our STP 4, Avenger called that they were engaged with a F16 2-ship so we sprinted to support. They called defensive on the F16s and also reported 2 Fox 3s in the air. Echion and I also fired on these F16s, myself scoring 1 kill, but I think Echion's hit one that was already destroyed by Avenger. During our scram south, Avenger called a Nails 16 on their 6 at 20 miles. Not realizing the AWACs vector is given in relation to each pilot, I believed Avenger was mistakenly reporting us on their 6, as I my RWR was naked and we had anchored in a clockwise turn to clear the 6. A later check of the ACMI showed the F16 3-ship flying parallel to us at our 9, about 15-20 nm away. Avenger turned hot on them, killing one and once we picked them up on the FCR, we also engaged, but the faded after Avenger killed 2 of them. The 3rd ran for home. Avenger, by now Kansas RTB'd and we called in Weasel with a clear picture. A Mig 29 2-ship then threatened from the NW, so we pushed them off with long range Slammers and I was luck to hit one. Following Weasel calling Miller Time, we let them pass then followed them out for Egress. On the way, we were threatened by a Mig29 2-ship from the east, so we engaged these, killing one each.
Overall a good mission for Green, in spite of our relative inexperience at A-A and my compliments to Echion, for some excellent formation flying. He stuck to my wing like glue, the whole time. Well done! |

This was Knight's first Sunday flight, he performed well and I think he will be a valuable addition to Blue. Knight, welcome and great mission!
Ingress was quiet until STP6, when we picked up some strobes that appeared to be on patrol. Since Cobra was very late departing, we scanned for nearby SAM threats (there were none) and engaged the hostile group. One was downed and Cobra arrived in time to pick up the trailer. As we were regrouping, Weasel reported NAILS 29 from the east, so we turned hot and picked them up, I didn't hear Cobra call their engagement on UHF, so we wasted some missiles in the fight.
While I was pumping from the engagement SE, I picked up NAILS 16 from the NE. Vector to threat indicated the bogeys were inside MAR (20nm), so we went gate south. These contacts were behind and in a flanking position on the Escort and Strike flights, and should have been engaged (although they were on a A-G mission and were not immediately a threat), Once Knight and I had 30nm separation, we turned to engage (they were DAKOTA and were turning towards WEASEL). I used my last 2 slammers and Knight fired one. The three ship was reduced to 1 and that lucky guy headed north (never engaged!). I would suggest everyone study the ACMI and concentrate on these learning points:
1) Why did we have poor sorts? Floyd offered a great suggestion that all pilots use expanded mode (EXP) to see which target is bugged by lead. We should try for a goal of no missed sorts in the future.
2) With all of the picture calls, how did the 2-ship Migs and the 3-ship F-16s get on our flank? Undetected!
Anyway, out of missiles and low on fuel, Avenger RTB'd and debriefed on the ramp.
