We still have urgent calls for support our front line troops in Albania with interdiction flights. This time we shall be focusing on the eastern border.

Your target is the 2nd Tank Battalion. It is currently just outside the NE border of Albania.

Your route is planned to avoid the coastal SA-2 but be aware of another active SA-2 to the south of the target as well as known SA-9 and AAA capabilities of these units. Intel advises us that in light of your successes the enemy has brought in extra SAM defences.

Air threats continue to be low but as with the SAM threats it is believed that additional higher grade enemy aircraft are on their way to the theatre.

Fig 1 - Combined Routes of Package 20984

Serpent 3 of the 22nd squadron, shall take off from Casale AB while Thunder 1 and Rapier 2 of the 77th squadron take off from Gioia del Colle AB.

Package 20984
Thunder 1 is a four ship interdiction flight. Your maximum loiter time over the target is 10 minutes after which you must leave the area.
MS is for an average of 3 targets per aircraft to be destroyed. PS will be given for an average of 2 kills per aircraft. There are 32 targets to choose from.

MF will be given if you stay longer than the allotted 10 minutes of the target, regardless of the kill tally.

Rapier 2 is the four ship escort and Package Commander, tasked to protect the interdiction flight.
IDA will be from this flight.
MS no AA losses to the interdiction flight, PS one loss to the interdiction flight.

Serpent 3 is a four ship SEAD flight. MS is no radar SAM or radar AAA losses to the package, PS is a maximum of one similar loss.

Timings
TO for Thunder 1 is 12:02hrs with PP at 12:23 at FL220. TOT is 12:32 at FL160. IDM 1, VHF 1, tacan 11/74.
TO for Rapier 2 is 12:00hrs with PP at 12:22 at FL250. IDM 2, VHF 2, tacan 16/79
TO for Serpent 3 is 12:04hrs with PP at 12:19 at FL260. IDM 3, VHF 3, tacan 21/84

Flight path is fixed for mutual support.

The weather is poor at home plates and fair at the target as the weather system moves SE with more storms coming in from the north. Choose your weapons accordingly.

Good Hunting

MF

Departed as one combined flight of Thunder1 and Shark1 and proceeded to rally point at STP 5 just off the coast waiting to be cleared forward. During the anchor, Shark1 having taken off 3 minutes later, caught up and joined Thunder1. Now operating as a 5 ship and mindful of the 10 minute time limit over the target the plan was for a trail formation attack with a ten mile wagon wheel. Like all plans, it fell apart on first contact with the enemy.

Plenty of mavericks were fired but too few hit the target.

Then Sabre was stupid and tried to get a 3rd kill with the mavericks as the clock was running out. The Department of Defense regrets to report your son was killed because he was stupid and broke both the hard deck rule and overflew the target.

MS

A good mission.

We took off climbing to FL220 at 300 knots at SP3 then on to FL260 at the PP, pretty much on carat. The skies being clear we headed to look for the SA-3 at the target and the element looked for the SA-5further out to the east. Both were destroyed. In the process we picked up an SA-4, another SA-3 and two SA-6's, all of which were despatched.

Once Arizona, we set up a west/east CAP as directed by Rapier 21 until Shark 11 called Miller time. We monitored the front of Shark and Thunder's egress then rtb'd.

A good approach and landing by all.

All in all a very good job from chocks out to chocks in. Well done guys.

MS

We took off a bit late because Zipgun had a tech with his stick and the rejoined. But we managed to make up for the time lost.

Very quiet flight. We CAPed as briefed, north-south, we had no enemy intercepts. The time on station was good, the comms were good.

The landing was a bit chaotic, since there were quite a few aircraft before us, so we held in a stack until Shark was on short finals. We then landed.

The airbase is a bit overrun with units, which makes taking off and landing a bit difficult.

Good flight but very quiet.
