We have an urgent requirement to support our front line troops in Albania with interdiction flights.
Your targets are the 2nd and 4th Mechanised Battalions. They are currently just SE of Shkoder, Albania.

There is an active SA-2 covering the area as well as known SA-9 and AAA capabilities of these units.

Air threats are low at present but the SEAD escort flight shall need to be alert and focused.

Panther 1 of the 22nd squadron, shall take off from Casale AB while Lobo 1 and Fury 1 of the 77th squadron take off from Gioia del Colle AB.

Package 19299
Fury 1 and Lobo 1 are four ship AI flights. MS is for each flight have an average of four kills each. PS will be awarded if an average of two are destroyed.

IDA will be from Fury 1.

Panther 1 is the four ship SEAD escort and Package Commander, tasked to protect the strike flights.

MS no AA or radar SAM losses to the strike flights, PS two losses to the combined strike flights.

Timings
TO for Fury 1 is 10:15hrs with PP at 10:33:27 at FL250. IDM 1, VHF 1, tacan 11/74
TOT for Fury 1 is 10:37:40hrs at FL180.
TO for Lobo 1 is 10:17hrs with PP at 10:35:33 at FL240. IDM 2, VHF 2, tacan 16/79
Lobo 1 shall hold station at PP until Fury 1 is off target.
TO for Panther 1 is 10:16hrs with PP at 10:29 at FL270. IDM 3, VHF 3, tacan 21/84

Flight path is fixed for mutual support.

The weather is poor at home plates and fair at the target as the weather system moves SE with more storms coming in from the north. Choose your weapons accordingly.

Good Hunting

On my second pass I flew over an unbriefed battalion containing SA14 (first hit) and SA9 (second hit). Shouldn't have been an issue but after BMS crashed after take-off I forgot to set ALOW to 15k during my inflight cockpit setup routine. Maybe if I didn't experience the CTD I would have been okay, but ifs, buts, and maybes don't guarantee anything. On the plus side, the first attack run scored 2 from 2 with a rippled TGP assisted attack, so I take confidence from that. The Mav deployment training paid off.

On another note, I have reservations about the Balkans Theater - I don't get any CTDs in Korea, but regular in Balkans, even offline in SP.

Reviewed my Blue on blue: AIM 120 was falling to the ground, the target had been shot down. A F-16 ducked down to NOE and flew right in front of the missile. My AIM-120 started a track and turned and hit it.
My initial lock on was correct, CAF correct, MAR correct, still this happened due to a terminal guidance missile locking onto anything in it's path down low on the deck. The F-16 path was very strange diving to the deck like in a neutral state. Could not have avoided this and no pilot error due to wrong lock or (V)ID.

PS

Ingress as fragged.
It took way too long to deliver weapons. I managed to get rid of mine fairly quick but only scored 1 hit. I did have solid cross on all my launches, but may have fired too early on first pass.
Should use WPN with TGP as backup in the future rather than boresight and handoff. It just doesnt work for me.
Lost #2 early due to ground fire. Believe Homer got too low and was taken out by SA-13 or handheld SAM.
Once winchester Lobo1 was called in and we resumed a CAP.
When Millertime was called we picked up contacts but as everyone else was RTB we snipped the contacts and RTB'ed as well.

I think we should either set a limit on playtime over target or a limit on how many mavericks we take with us.
It took forever to get rid of 6 mavericks.
MS/PS should be lowered accordingly.

MS/MF: unknown: ACMI review required (I'll look at it)

Ingress as fragged, 40/50mi ahead of the package. Engaged mud2 and mudAAA over AO succesfully. No op up legacy SAM systems (we we're worried an SA-6 was there). Set up CAP 10mi 240/80 310kts FL28+ to cover the AI flights. Departed CAP with groups reported from the N/W by Chalis. Chicks engaged bandits, we got 2 MiG-29's and a leaker 2x Su-25 (furballs).
Regrouped and back to CAP: Fury1 Dakota and Lobo1 in, we departed CAP as fragged and handed off CAP to Fury1. We flowed south west feet wet, and OPS checked and picture. Mig-29 group west +/-30 miles so we departed the package and flowed west taking into account a SA-3 2x stationed between us and the bandits. Extending feet wet we encountered a furball (again) and #2 fired FL190 1x AIM120 into a Mig-29 hostile. Good hit (VID). #1 went nose down and followed the leaker which went cold after #1 AIM120 which locked on a F16NL after terminal (Blue on Blue for me). ACMI review required: how the F did this happen.
Egress and rejoin the package was all RTB (great fuel management everybody!) and everybody landed safe.

Lessons learnt:
- Hard deck
- Weapons delivery: AGM-65D Maverick
* Boresighting is not needed unless a specific attack profile is required

Both of these topics are going to be covered in the next A-G training mission wednesday next 23/11.

MF

Ingressed as fragged and Held at Stp 5 for Fury to call Dakota. We received the cleared hot call and turned hot in element order (3/4 first, then 1/2). Not sure what happened with the mavs and I will have to check the acmi. I was aware that we had already spent too long over the ao, so once we had our 2 minutes play time and Poppy called a fuel issue, I ordered my flight to knock it off and rejoin at our Stp 8. Ops check showed me and Mango Dakota, but Fiero had 2 mavs left and echion 3. But I made the decision to RTB before we had any unwanted company.
Uneventful egress, but we need a little time flying together as a flight to get ourselves sorted on Comms, SOPs and formation flying. Apart from the slightly disappointing result, a relatively enjoyable flight and a good first mission for Echion and Fiero.
