Apart from yours truly, the last mission was largely a success. Although limited numbers of targeted enemy were destroyed, the defence against the wall of enemy air threats was impressive.

this week we have been reassigned to attack those same forces we were looking for last time out. They are continuing to probe into our territory and the forces defending them are struggling badly.

Below is an intelligence image of the advancing troops.

The focus of your attack must be the 32nd Armoured Battalion with consideration to the nearby 48th Mechanised Battalion.

Flights are identical in all but name and order this week.

Package in Take-off Order
Hunter 5 is the four ship escort and Package Commander, tasked to protect the strike package.
IDA will be from this flight.
MS no AA losses to the strike flight, PS one loss to the strike flight.

Spartan 3 is a two ship SEAD, tasked to eliminate any pop up radar SAM threats and advise the package commander if too many threats threaten the strike flight. MS no losses to radar SAMs or radar guided AAA, PS one similar loss to any flight.

Cowboy 4 is a four ship strike flight. MS is an average of 3 kills per human pilot that reaches the target, PS is 2 kills per pilot.

Fist 2 is a two ship close escort for Cowboy 4, flying at FL250. MS is no losses to Cowboy 4, PS is one loss to Cowboy 4.

TOT for Cowboy 4 is 21:04hrs at FL270 to FL160. IDM 1, VHF 1, tacan 11/74
TOT for Fist 2 is 21:01hrs at FL300. IDM 2, VHF 2, tacan 16/79
TOT for Hunter 5 is 20:59hrs at FL290. IDM 3, VHF 3, tacan 21/84
TOT for Spartan 3 is 21:00hrs at FL280. IDM 4, VHF 4, tacan 26/89

Our ingress route was left to the package, but coming close to the flot we
found two SA-11 to the north east and had to engage. The target area was
protected by the Escort flying CAP, so we stayed to the east and could
thereby shoot down two SU-25. Egress and RTB were uneventful.

Cowboy 4
Role: Strike
Cowboy 41: Fisty AA=0 AG=4 RTB
Cowboy 42: Mango AA=0 AG=0 RTB
Cowboy 43: Vosene AA=0 AG=2 RTB

PS

Fairly routine ingress at 27,000 in loose wedge formation. We heard the call from Hunter 5 about the enemy CAP off to the North of target, but since it was no factor to us and being dealt with by the ESC, we pushed to target STP. Once the targets were located, we set up in trail formation with 2-5Nm separation. This worked really well for us, except that again Mango was unable to locate any targets. We think this is down to him having a low Object Density setting in his setup, which has now been sorted. Nevertheless the flight scored 6 kills in total. During the final pass, Fisty was trying to lead Mango onto the targets and strayed a little too far North, which aroused the attention of a Mig-29. This was quickly dealt with by one of the Escorts, with Fisty running South at Gate. The flight reformed at Stp 4 and headed home for a straight in approach with no issues.

** Checking the ACMI, Poppy got a kill not registered in the debrief **

Ingress was easy, we spotted a enemy CAP near bullseye and we elected to ignore them ... Later, I asked Spartan to engage them if possible. We found several groups coming down from the NW and we were able to keep them away long enough to allow the package time on target. In retrospect, I should have given Spartan a kill box to the east and let them defend that flank... live and learn.

We found the airbase in the dark and landed OK ...

NOTE: everyone should do a T-2 (autonomous approach) when turning final. This will cause the tower bloke to keep the lights on long enough for you to land. Failure to do this can cause the airport to "disappear" at the most inopportune moment, while you hear a chuckle from the a-hole in the tower.
