With last week's success, we are asked to venture deeper into the NW to remove some SA-11s and AAAs. This week we will use an asymmetrical loadout of AGM-88 + SDB to maximize the potential killing power of this mission.
Python1 - 4 ship SEAD 1 88, 4 SDBs Weasel1 - 4 ship Sweep Escort
Satellite INTEL provides us with the approximate location of 2 SA-11 battalions and a cluster of AAA. We are to use the 88+HAD to locate emitters (providing a circle in the HUD) and then slewing the TGP within the circle to get us close. We then find launchers with the TGP and deploy SBDs to kill them. If they remain stationary, we should be able to kill all launchers, ACRV, Kraz, and SA-14s in the battalion.
If they are moving, kill them with the 88s and use the SDBs on the AAA at STP-4. If the SA-11s at STP-6 can be killed with SDBs, save the 88s to engage the SA-11s at STP-5 from a standoff distance.
Remember to stay at least 18NM miles away from the SA-11s during the engagement.
Reference this video to understand the "Square-Circle" engagement technique. -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiNvU2wP93w
If Red air resistance is too strong, deploy 88s and SDBs on stationary and emitting targets near the FLOT
Python1 MS= avg of 3 kills per aircraft PS= 2 kills Weasel1 - MS= no loss due to AA - PS=no Python loss to AA
BTW, this is not a Zipgun fabricated loadout - reference this recent Osan elephant walk http://screencast.com/t/C9HKMzwT

Mission Outcome: MS
Engaged the primary SA10 as planned, with no issues.
The 2nd element went on in to engage the secondary SA10 and in doing so, Zipgun was shot down by a popup SA11, as Tank's Magnums which were meant to cover him didn't track and Poppy's arrived too late.
Outside of this there were no notable situations. |

Mission Outcome: MS
I hope Sabre doesn't mind me posting the mission debrief, but since he left before the end of the mission, he won't have seen the results.
The flight took off and formed up in Box formation with 8-10 miles between elements, without much trouble and we ingressed at around 26'000. Unfortunately, we were well ahead of Python (SEAD) by the time we reached our holding point (some 50 miles ahead if I remember the AWACs call correctly). Despite no SEAD cover, we departed from the fragged plan of waiting for Python to destroy the first SA-10 and pressed North to set up the CAP over the target area. Unfortunately, Sabre trespassed the Southeast SA-10 and bought the farm. This came as a complete surprise to us as there wasn't even a "defensive" call, just a distant explosion. Veiland immediately took command and ordered us to retreat south and reform. By this time, Python had arrived at the party and reported the Southeast SA-10 destroyed, so we set up a 3-ship CAP over that area. There were sporadic contacts away to the Northwest, but they were no factor. Again, we pressed further North and it seems that Veiland also trespassed the second SA-10 to the Northwest, resulting in his ship catching one up the pipe. Fisty then took command with Mango stripped some 15 miles behind. With a KS-19 Tanker and 2-ship SU30 escort out to the west, pushing to within 30 mile of the CAP, he turned hot to chuck some spears to turn them away, with Mango racing up to support. Then unexpectedly, the SU-30 escort turned cold, leaving the tanker exposed and defenceless. Not being one to turn down the opportunity to 'stick it up em' he launched a 120b at the KS-19, destroying it. Unfortunately, by this time, the escort had again turned hot and attacked Fisty, still without his wingman, which resulted in him being shot down by an AA-12, but not before he had destroyed one of the SU-30s, with 2 120Cs. In the meantime, Mango had arrived at the party and chucked one at the second SU, damaging it in the process, but it was too late to save Fisty. The SU-30 limped off to the Northwest and Mango RTB'd alone with his thoughts. Overall, a well planned mission with good comms and accurate formation, but was marred by a failure to stick to the plan. End result, however, with no losses to Python from A-A, a Mission Success.

Posted - 19 Jun 2016 : 23:23:24 Great mission! Maximum playtime on SEAD is needed so we might want to think on a refuel over Kimpo depending on the air picture and the skill on SiC (Square in the Circle). I will host a training mission on this tactic before sunday so any pilots not confident on this technique can work on it on the range.
