Posted - 18 Apr 2016 : 22:27:46 There is no vote this week as there is a pressing need to hit a very large group of mechanised forces ready to hit our boys on the bullseye, 26 miles south of Zagreb. They are highlighted on the image as group A.
It is crucial we hit them hard.
There is an SA-2 and AAA battalions in the area, as well as the various unit's own arsenal of manpads and vehicle mounted SAMs.
At this stage it is proposed to use a SEAD/AI mix for two flights of four, with a four ship escort.
Is this the correct option for this mission? What do you think?

There is another smaller group to the east north east of Zagreb that may be of interest later in the day (group B on the image).

Mission Outcome: MS
The plan was to shift bullseye to a holding point 20nm from the flot to allow the AI flights a safe area to operate from with the idea to let the next element push to target once an element is engaging the target, giving the elements 20 plus miles to look for targets on ground radar.
The first AI flight needed three passes while the second flight had to loiter over the safe area. An incoming group of 4 MiG-29A made it necessary to push the package even further west.
After several A2A engagements and running low on gas and missiles, the second flight could have one pass only to drop their bombs before the package had to RTB.
To comment on attacking the "T" shaped group i would say that first AI flight's engagement was interupted by the bandit's attack, so no time to save there anyway and the second AI would have flown into manpad range earlier (no pun intended). |

Circled over Bullseye as fragged - called in after much A/A action single pass only - we got mauled by manpads - may be MAVs would have been a better stand off option? 3 jets got home - 2 of which were damaged but landed.
I think the original plan to attack the "T" shaped group of targets simultaneously from South to North (Green) and West to East (Blue) would have yielded better results and been over much quicker thus giving the Migs less scramble time.
Escort did a great job keeping the Migs off us - many thanks.
Busy but good comms.

Mission Outcome: MS
Plan.
As the 2-ship, Serpent1 was responsible for putting in a CAP to the SW of the target and covering 180 through 270 degrees out to 40nm.
Execution
Uneventfully ingress and first part of the CAP. As Serpent had just under 10 minutes playtime remaining several enemy groups approached from the E and SE. 1 engaged a J-22 with a Slammer shot and splashed it. Two further shots on a Mig-29A group, 1x damaged, 1x destroyed. 2 fired at a MiG-29A during this engagement and damaged it but got within MAR and was downed, ejecting. As a 1-ship Serpent1 worked with the other Escort, Fury1, and engaged 2 close range G4 Galeb, splashing the first with a single Fox3 and another with 2x shots. After this Serpent11 was Winchester and Bingo so RTB without issue.
Comms were good with Fury1.
Ground strikes took too long as the Escort were already down on fuel when the majority of the enemy aircraft turned up and this is probably down to the plan for each AI Flight to attack sequentially. We should plan should avoid this whenever possible in the future.

Mission Outcome: PS
We went AG first in, we did one pass, then we got called off as we had incoming bogies. We held and at some point, went hot again. We did one more pass then went to regroup and then capped for the rest of the flight.
Poppy had a tech, and lost him right after TO.
Zipgun and Wildcat did a good job at shooting down some AA targets of opportunities.

Posted - 20 Apr 2016 : 21:16:08 Package No 24699
The targets are multiple mechanised units indicated as group A in the first post above.
We shall be flying Block 50 F-16s from Aviano and Tessera.
1851st Sqn - Tessera Green flight shall fly the first AI group of four in Cowboy 1 TO: 10.32, Push Point (PP) at SP3: 10.40(A26), TOT (SP4): 10.59(A22)
Blue flight shall fly the second AI group in Falcon 1 TO: 10.34, PP (SP3):10.42(A25), TOT (SP4): 11.01 (A22)
1852nd Sqn - Aviano Black flight is Escort and Package Commander this time in Fury 1 TO: 10.31, PP(SP3): 10.39 (A28+), TOT (SP4): 10.56 (A28+)
Data Link 1 - Cowboy 1 2 - Falcon 1 3 - Fury 1
Weather is expected to be clear for this mission, but no promises.
Success Criteria AI Flights: MS - 6 kills/aircraft with no losses to ground fire PS - 4 kills/aircraft with no losses to ground fire
Escort Flight: MS - No losses to AI flights from enemy air assets PS - A maximum of two losses to AI flights from enemy air assets
You will see from the latest intel picture below that there are plenty of enemy air assets on patrol in the target area. They may be of lesser quality than our aircraft but there are still quite a few of them, so plan carefully.

Good Hunting.
