The vote this week has us on OCA in the NW. An additional target has been added as suggested.
OCA NW
OCA flight shall be Blue (Cowboy 1) from Pohang. Black (Fury 1) will fly the Escort from Taegu. Green (Falcon 1) shall be on SEAD Escort duty from Pohang.
Package number is 13653.
The route shown below is fixed for all, with all steerpoint ID's being the same for everyone. Timings are also important for SPs 4 (Hold point) and 5 (first target) and 7 (second target).
For guidance, TOT for SP4 with altitudes in brackets;
Falcon 1 (Green) : 13:35:31 (A27)
Cowboy 1 (Blue) : 13:37:46 (A26)
Fury 1 (Black) : 13:33:52 (A28)
for SP5, TOT is;
Falcon 1 (Green) : 13:45:36 (A27)

Weapon choice is free, with the usual exceptions.
Package lead on this shall be the Escort lead.

Koksan is in operation. One of it's runways will be out of action for a while but rwy 23L/05R should be the focus of this attack. Keep an eye out for MiG-29As.
Similarly Onch'on is out of action but rwy 20L/02R is close to operable again and needs destroying. T'aech'on runway just needs new holes to keep their engineer battalions busy.

Mission Success
OCA - All runways at the three targets left unusable.
SEAD and Escort - No losses to OCA flight from enemy air assets or radar SAMs.
Partial Success
OCA - Koksan and On'chon runways rendered unusable.
SEAD and Escort - Max of two losses to OCA flight from enemy air assets and radar SAMs.
AWACs will be on station but may be out of range for info as you reach the northern most targets.

Long story short, we went in, did the job and returned.
The only (and big) event was scramble of 29s from our first target, which resulted in Zipgun being shot down not before also shooting one bandit.
On that engagement, while the escort did make a call about the 29s, the engaging element of the OCA flight did not spot them on the runway until starting the bombing run. While me may never know, I don't think aborting at that stage, heavy with weapons and tanks, would have produced a better result and I agree it does make sense to have a close escort in such situations.
Re: scores, while I have no "destroyed" targets for FlyingStone and just one for Veiland, I do have all their bombs register as hit, so I can only assume the runways were already down. |

Standard take off - Good join and formation to STP 4 (rally) arrived Rolex+ 5 seconds.
Both SA2's were taken out before they got a shot off - as a bonus SA3 was taken down near first Air field.
Once all 88's expended we went CAT1 and proceeded to secondary and then tertiary targets - we had good eyes on tertiary target looking for Migs trying to take off - none.
Long drive home as tail end Charlie's good fuel management meant we all landed with 1,000+ cross wind on the thresh hold was testing but we all made it back to the bar ;0)
Good flight - bit of a bladder buster but well worth the effort to keep the Migs out of the sky for the next mission.

Mission Outcome: PS
Some pilots joined late and we improvised on flight composition
with Veiland and Flyinstone flying with BLUE and Wildcat flying
with BLACK - what looked problematic in the beginning because it
was the first official flight for Wildcat and Zohrs, but both
did a good job.
Next hiccup was one pilot not having configured his router/packet
forwarding to 185th standard. Problem was solved by changing
a setting in the host configuration. This imcompatability
was known in every session before the first official flight and
could have been taken care of.
This plan was worked out:
- join at wpt 4
- proceed to wpt 5 with OCA to attack the base and SEAD the SA-2 to the west
- proceed wpt 6 with SEAD to destroy SA-3
- proceed wpt 7 with OCA to attack runway
- proceed wpt 8 with OCA to attack runways
This happened (Escort point of view):
at wpt 5 we made contact with two J-11 coming in from the north
and attacked, shot both planes down and were defensive with active
missiles fired by the bandits.
#1 declared a contact close to Koksan as bandit (SU-25), informed the
OCA and once in range, fired a slammer and hit an F/A-18D from a group
that had already shot down the SU-25.
Now being close to the airbase MiG-29 contacts showed up on RWR and
the OCA flight was informed. #2 could shoot down one bandit, but
the #2 from OCA got shot down. The debrief and the ACMI provide
evidence that the OCA element pressed the attack despite seeing
the bandits on runway/taking off. The ESCORT could have flown
a better pattern (close and low) at the time of the OCA attack.
There were no further events for the ESCORT flight.
The comms were not as good as could be, flights should make more
calls when ground units get attacked or bandits are spotted.
In the debrief the pilots agreed that the flight was too long
with three airbases to attack, especially with the late start.
