A unit (squadron) can be marked inactive in Mission Commander, but in RL runways can be repaired rapidly with high-tech materials ... ammo bunkers and fuel trucks can be convoyed in as long as supply routes and vehicle/manpower permits.

If you want to more closely simulate RL conditions, we should frag F-15/F-4/F-5 air cover for our packages. We could then practice good carrot-flying to rendezvous and stay with packages. If this scenario unfolded, by now, Japan would be overrun by every air asset available from countries allied with the ROK. BTW, Korea would be overrun with Russian and Chinese aircraft too.

Day 7 !!!

its going to be a long week ;0)

I think we must achieve a certain level of reinforcement,
what means we have to withstand for some time. The original
requirement was "campaign day > 6", but it is commented out.
So we have not to lose and wait for the reinforcements to come.

What is the criteria for winning this campaign?

Sharpe Posted - 26 May 2015 : 13:21:21
Perhaps a way to 'fake it' would be to attack an airbase, take out its runway, ammo bunker, fuel and HAS'S. If we achieve this we can wipe the unit if the map artificially (or if partial we can agree what damage has been done to each squadron)?

We have to balance out a couple of the game quirks from reality (Un realistic ability to resupply air assest to an airbase with no runway, ability to store ammo/fuel once airbase infrastructure has been destroyed and the ability to destroy aircraft on the hard standing/HAS's).

Perhaps we could test this by attacking one or two airbases where the runway is destroyed but that still has squadrons based there? Destroy the ammo bunker, fuel tanks and HAS' then wipe all the squadrons off the map?

Runway segments are repaired after 3 hours, so a 3-segment runway
is active after max. 9 hours game time. One possibility would
be to render the squadrons on these bases inactive (as i can do
for Kunsan and Kwangju for next Sunday) or destroy all segments
every 9 hours - on every base! We will never be able to destroy
planes in hangar/bunker, only in A2A, but it seems they'll get
resupplied immediately (in this campaign).

Our ground forces are close to zero numbers and the ground war
is pretty much lost at this point if we don't stop red forces
as soon as possible.

Well that was a long one for sure - interesting that most people made it back with a decent amount of fuel, but a note for package commanders - you really don't have the loiter/combat time you are used to when you fly so far!

Ingress was uneventful. Things started to hot up over target 1 (Kunsan). Strike went in under cover of the escort flight and after aborting the first attempt due to a scare from pop up 29's on the RWR. After striking the first target, the package tentatively moved towards targets 2 and 3 although it was clear the air picture was turning ugly.

Call to abort came as flights and AWACS started to indicate a large number of threats to the north and north east. Having had the escort engage threats near Kunsan (and take 2 losses), I wasn't happy we had the weapons (or fuel) to continue forward so rather than press home and take further losses I thought it was best to go home and try again another day.

RTB was mostly uneventful and package commander sorted landing slots based on fuel state.

Only real debriefing point is to think (as a VFS) about how we might try to get better intel on likely targets before flying a mission. Our original mission was to hit 2 airbases on the west coast but it became apparent during the briefing that we needed to fly PAST active airbases (with air to air threats based at them) to get to the targets.

Further, it seems that to get the air picture to a state where we can start performing some operations over the FLOT (desperately needed) we need to hit some airbases in/around Seoul. Trouble is that even IF we hit all the active airbases, by the time we achieve this, we will need to start hitting them all over again as they get repaired. Is there any way to get some AI flights to attack some of the airbases around Seoul and/or perform some strike missions on bridges in/around the FLOT? We cant do it all when the enemy is this good/has superior numbers.

Snake1 SEAD Escort
Snake1:1 Floyd 0-2 RTB
Snake1:2 Griffin 2-2 RTB
Snake1:3 Crowebar 0-2 RTB

We destroyed 3 SA-2 radar as briefed plus 3 from AAA sites on ingress and over Kunsan.

A couple of 360's on route to allow package to reform - split flight into 2 elements one to cover Kunsan and scan low the other was called in to cover Viper's tail. In the flight that followed we lost one from each flight.
RTB'd with two birds - comms suffered due to fighting off the red guys ;0)

L-O-N-G flight !!!
