Flight leads in this Sunday's official campaign mission, "Strong DPRK 1" are requested to post a debrief of their flights actions, including any lessons learned or that should be learned by others.

Sorry, just realized that I hadn't posted our results from the 1st flight:
As we took off, we were immediately re-tasked to an intercept by AWACS. Before we reached STP2, I could see a wall of chevrons in the upper half of the FCR. We set up a mini-grinder with our 3-ship, and took turns with a launch-and-leave tactic. When FURY checked in, we relayed the situation and began a 2-flight grinder, prioritizing the A-A fighters and leaving A-G bogeys. When it became clear that we were not going to get in range of SAMs, we cut-loose the HARMs and continued to fight an air battle until abort was called.
Although the package commander commented on the dead-air, we were the pointy end of the spear and were task-saturated staying alive. It would have been better for someone in the rear to study the HSD/FCR, ask for sit-reps, and develop a picture. When you're wrestling with a bear, you don't have a lot of spare cycles to describe the fur to others. As Veiland said, we were coordinating a defense of the rally point, so the other flights had time to assess and react as needed. |

I've relocated the squadrons to Kadena. The ROK airbases are 0%.

I must confess the number of unavailable airbases already may well be a problem going forward... :(
At the risk of more ridicule, and perhaps debate, should we reconsider and fly Rolling Fire or Tiger Spirit? |

After takeoff we began climb to FL26 and our rallypoint, after switching to tactical it became clear that Zipguns flight was allready heavily engaged with enemy gen4+ fighters. We went gate and as it turned out was in position for a hot leg when Zipguns flight turned cold. Was fairly undramatic from my point of view, as enemies was focused elsewhere which allowed us throw some spears without any real opposition. As we turned cold Zipgun was ready for a hot leg. I think we managed to persecute 2 cordinated attacks before package commander called us to abourt and divert to Japan.
Communication from the other flights was good.
Despite Sharpes instructions to go CAT1 we kept our stores as fuel situation was good and there were no threats atm. Staying CAT3 combined with the spacing between flights meant that we ended up doing a straight in approach from 20nm out.

I can re-check it, but as this is one of the "standard" campaigns,
i'll guess ALL squadrons are set to HQ. I had to uncheck our two
squadrons right after campaign start.
The problem is, in my opinion, the very small number of friendly
squadrons. Our air bases will be overrun and down in no time. |

Were the F16 squads changed to "set by HQ" turned off? It might explain why we got absolutely swamped by enemy aircraft. |

Well we all know what happened tonight so I am not going to go into detail. Brief notes below:
Took off and it became clear as soon as we pushed 13 that the air picture was extremely hot. Gypsy 41 handed the package over to Lobo11 who seemed to have the air picture. Once Gypsy 41 had the picture I stared to move the package south towards our airbase while trying to fend off the wall of hostiles to our North and West. It quickly became clear the situation was untenable so I separated the package heading south over the coast. I then diverted the whole package to Kadena in Japan.
4 Learning Points:
- Good comms and discipline from all flight leads under extreme pressure.
- When the air picture becomes very hot very quickly it is worth going back to tower freq and telling all flights that the air picture on take off is hot and they should scramble to take off (or similar).
- I felt that when I handed over the package to Lobo11 after I went to UHF13 and called tumbleweed there was too much dead air. That said I appreciate (after the debrief) that two of the flights felt they had things 'in order', which is a fair point but with such a difficult air picture there were two flights that did not know what to do and could have been given instruction.
- We should brief a cadence for package command in the event of the original package commander being shot down.
