Posted - 16 Jan 2015 : 20:48:50 That's straight forward poppy. You just need to set your clock to X64 when everyone else commits to taxi. You then use the IVC client for comms. I will send you the IVC client guide, unless you still have it from IQT?

Posted - 16 Jan 2015 : 14:57:42 The problem is really that if a MIG-21 shows up on RWR theres really no time to try and pick them up on radar, as you are allready about to merge due to the limited range of the MIG-21's puny Spin Scan radar. Human AWACS would be great though. |

Posted - 16 Jan 2015 : 13:07:09 Would human AWACS have helped? If so I would like to volunteer to take that role on the next flight. I have experience from the Red Flag FOL campaign. I just need the SOP (can't find it) on how to work the time (64x?) in 2d.

Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 17:02:51 A better tactic might have been to wait for the other strike flights to end their attack run and have some air cover. Dangerous to fly alone sixty miles behind the flot w/o cover. This art of taking risks happened often during our campaign flights. |

Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 09:56:26 Thanks for posting the debrief Jack :)
I just wanted to add a few words about the flight myself that i wrote up on Sunday but haven't posted due to having caught Ebola/SARS/CJD/Bird Flu and MRSA (my wife says i exaggerate, no idea where she gets that idea from).
Avenger 7 departed with a clear air picture to re - destroy a runway flagged at 80% in the 2d map.
Ingress was as planned until we got a late RWR showing Mig-21's at our 10. We turned in but couldn't find them. It turns out they we very low and we had already merged. After a confused engagement following a defensive split 1 killed both aircraft and we returned to our target.
However, at about 20nm from our target we got Mig-29 spikes. I guessed (correctly as it turns out) that they had come from the airbase we were attacking. I already knew we were within MER and wouldn't be able to outrun them so we had to stand and fight. Again we struggled to find them as they were low and by the time we had a picture we had merged. 2 went down fairly quickly in the fight. 1 called for a delouse and was shot down about 30 seconds before the cavalry killed the offending aircraft (nice effort Elmo sorry I couldn't stay alive).
Bit of an odd engagement due to proximity of aircraft and trying to find them so low down (where you don't expect them) and we'll worth reviewing.
Learning points: 1) Don't just assume you will have no air picture because the enemy airbases appear to be disabled.
2) Seems me and Jack at the least are rusty in BFM at close range, especially loaded. Could be a good subject for training.
3) Call for delouse sooner especially when you have been caught out!

An uneventful takeoff and ingress to target area. #2 held 20 South miles of target while #1 made first pass at A18, Target was hot with AAA. 3 shots and off to South, cleared #2 in hot. #2 was hit by AAA over target at A20. #1 made 2nd pass and once Nevada, cleared out to the West were Cobra1 were engaged with Mig-29's and still cat3. Threat had passed so I remained to West of Cobra in support while they turned hot on ground target.
Once all flights Dekota package RTB'd.
Well done Simpson on your first official mission with the squadron.

Mission Fail
T/O 20:05, apprx 25 min later encountered 2 Mig 21s. Sharpe engaged low after being pounced on, but turned the tables & shot both down. Avenger 72 was unable to assist due to not being able to get the 21's on radar. Returned to flt path & continued toward tgt. Encountered Mig 29s on engress, 1 was low & 2 commanded to remain higher at Angels 15 & engage 29s. 2 had 29s on RWR but not radar. 2 went defensive but too late as 29s were on us. 2 was shot & ejected. 1 KIA 2 min later by 29A. |

Mission Outcome: MS,PS,MF
Climbed to A25 inbound, just before our IP had contacts of Mig29A which Avenger was defensive and a singleton Mig21, number one engaged the Mig29A and got one kill and damaged one, number 2 was hot on ground targets and carried out one pass, number 3 became defensive on Mig21 so number 1 engaged the Mig21 but missile missed, number 2 then turned hot to help out and one became defensive, two took out the Mig21 but number one got taken out by the Mig21 prior to two's missile hitting. The air picture was then clear and two and three continued hot to target and dropped all their ordinance taking out 16 vehicles before RTB.

Mission Outcome: Target score unknown, but we noted down what the debrief stated. Server crashed once landed and parked. Good ingress on the target, good weapons delivery (visual BDA). The HQ battalion was down to 1 unit after we were done. 2 passes needed by all to get the MAV's off. (each had 8 mav's). Unable to support northern flight which were engaged with MiG-29's. Called dakota and went into a holding pattern over Seoul for RTB. After RTB call we had a good landing at Kwangju. Good flying and great tight comms. Very succesful flight and nice to lead such experienced pilots.
